is summer. View attachment 12261

Was this recent? If so, how deep were you? We did really well on red grouper 40 miles in 110ft out of St Pete this year. That was summer and early fall though, haven’t been in about 6 weeks. Dying to get out.

This was in July, We go down once a year and target Snook but this year the red tide was bad so no inshore fishing was pretty bad.
We ran out of Stump Pass around 32 miles and was in 100 foot of water, the tagged fish we caught were around 27 miles out.

Got ya. Was curious because typically red grouper move further out in winter. Next good weather/wind weekend I want to get out but good red bite may be out of reach for me in a 24 bay boat. Gags come close this time of year so probably try them.
I do a lot of inshore as well, red tide was a b*tch this year. Especially down where you go.

Me and the boy took the canoe down the Santa Fe out of Worthington Springs today. Using meal worms and small hooks we caught supper. Big red belly, two big warmouth perch and a huge blue gill. I kept the small catfish and he was delicious. Grits hushpuppies and those fish made my stomach happy tonite. First time since I was in my twenties I caught fish like that and cleaned and cooked em up. The boy caught the big bream and warmouth. Something HUGE broke his line early on.

Nice job coach. Warmouths aren't perch tho. They're sunfish. :afraid:

I learned that term when I was 10. My FIL even called bass trout. I hear he people up above Fla call speckled perch crappie ; WTF kinda name is that for a fish.
The warmouth, warmouth sunfish, or warmouth bass, (Lepomis gulosus), is a freshwater fish of the sunfish (Centrarchidae) family that is found throughout the eastern United States. Other local names include molly, redeye, goggle-eye, red-eyed bream, stump knocker, and strawberry perch.
Got a bigger mouth than most bream like fish. He aint nothing like the stump knockers we caught near the mouth of the Suwannee.

Well, if you look up the wildlife fish & game commission's nomenclature, they're Crappie, not specks or speckled perch. My dad was wrong too. Don't feel too bad. He called them specks.

Got to fish the Nantahala River in western NC this week. Got some decent rainbows and browns, and even an elusive brook trout.

There’s decent white water rafting there.

Thanks to 812 and everybody who stops in once in a while to say Hi. I really appreciate it. A lot of time and effort goes into this.

Was this at Rosie’s Place in the Bahamas?
Yes it was. Rosie treated us like royalty, When we got there Charley (the boat owner) called for Rosie to come down to the dock and asked him who was the best Captain on the Island. Rosie answered "That would be my brother-in-law Capt. Avery Meyer". Charley asked "Is he available for a couple of days?" When Rosie answered "For you Mr Charley of course" I knew we would be treated like kings.

Rosie is a him? But call me jealous. I want to catch a mahi big enough grill. And want him filleted and grilled hours after I catch him (or her).
Wait maybe it is Rosie Grier part of the fearsome foursome from LA

We stayed there two years ago, it’s a cool set up. We caught some really nice black fins and mutton’s. Every night when we got back to the dock and were cleaning fish, the bull sharks that would hang and eat the carcases were huge.

We took up fresh mutton (by far the best snapper) and conch to the restaurant at Rosie’s. They fried the fresh cracked conch, and fried and blackened the mutton. It was on point.

We took a charter cap on board the first day, and then just fished on own for the next two days. The yellowfin bite was slow , but we caught some 30 lb blackfins. Chunking was the best. Spot birds diving on bait balls on the radar, haul ass to the party, pull up and start chunking bait chunks and get a chum line going. Free line some bait chunks on a circle hook into the chum slick and wait for the rod to go off. We caught some stud blackfins doing this.

We did the same, I think it is a tradition at Rosie's take part of your catch to the restaurant and they prepare it for you. The funny thing was when we got to the dock we went straight to the bar at the end of the docks, while we sat on the porch we watched Capt. Meyer clean our fish. We kept seeing little island boys walk by with filets in zip lock bags knowing it was part of our catch. We didn't care we still brought home 5 ice chests packed full of fish.
