This is a fair point, but you focused on the wrong side of the equation and not my point. I'm saying if we lose in a battle of morons, this goes to the sh!tter fast. Win, even possbily ugly, and we are 2-0 with a home game against aTm who have a brand new coach and somewhat depleted roster. Momentum could build but little to no chance without a week 1 W.
This is exactly the point everyone seems to forget about, re. college football.
They're kids and they thrive on emotion.
Everyone always looks at the entire year and every opponent, and they see all the riggors of that SEC schedule all at once, and they doubt our chances.
But these games are played one at a time (duh). And IF they beat Miami, they're sure to beat Samford. A 2-0 Gators, at home, against an unknown TAM team could easily become 3-0. And that, then, creates a whole new sense of faith, emotion, and responsibility.
If they lose to Miami, we'll be more of the same and CBN will likely be let go.

Good grief, I'm not even reading some of this bs. Just don't over think it. Have fun, support your Gators win or lose and don't be worried about being "right". This roster is way better than some we've had recently. And if the coaching staff can get out its own way we might be pretty good.
You're right, its not like this is a message board or anything, no reason to have discussions here (1% rational discussion, 50% your mom jokes, 49% $martass replies). Win or lose we should all just log in, say Go Gators and keep it moving.

Trust me I get it and would like to say I could see it happening. The PTSD from the last two years of not being able to put momentum together and get consistent wins/performances is something I can't shake. We have almost always followed a positive up with a let down of some sorts.

Hoping for the best and expecting the worst.

Yeah, you are. To think this team could be WORSE than last season and the season before that is asinine. We are improved everywhere. It's a significantly more talented team than his first season.
I said we win six. Yes our team is more talented, but this is a much harder schedule than we've had the previous two years.

Again, we don’t have THAT kind of talent.
You said “no changes” on defense and special teams. I listed 4 coaching changes. Now you bring up talent.

DL: Slackman (4th rated DL transfer), McCray (#1 DL recruit)

LB: Howard (#9 LB transfer), Chiles (#6 recruit) & Graham (#9 recruit)

DB: McClain (#5 CB transfer as a PWO), Grimsley (#10 CB transfer) Turner (starting S in the NCG), Douglas, Bridges for depth, Smith (#12 S recruit)

At each level he’s added talented experience and talented youth. Again, we’ll see if it works, if it’s “that kind” of talent, and how well our returning players show improvement, but the changes are significant.

I’m saying the talent isn’t to the level that can overcome the coaching. Has the roster been somewhat upgraded? I suppose it has somewhat. At least we don’t have the glaring holes?
As far as coaching changes, we’ll see. You still have the same HC, DC and the same play caller. We’ve seen how that worked.

I really think that Roberts was brought in to "help" with the defensive play calling without throwing beat it under the bus. Either way I would expect to see some differences there. Getting rid of Raymond and replacing him with Harris may be a bigger addition than the Roberts hire. It was actually nice to see a DB coach, "coaching" and putting them in tackling drills rather than bullfighting 'ole simulations. Not to mention Chatman with the DL, so I do feel there are some upgrades on that side of the LOS.

Yes, the game day coaching head scratchers need to be corrected as well. We won't know about that til the fall. But as I stated before there is significantly more talent than this staff has had. We still have a long way to go to get to championship level talent across the board, but better than we have been. If the Defense from last year would have stopped anyone during some of those games, it would have been the difference in a couple of wins. But close doesn't cut it. Like I posted earlier. Time to see it, no excuses left. but I feel we are in better shape than previously.

Kentucky is the pivotal game IMHO. Lose to them and season is effectively over. I see max 6 wins. No bowling for the Gators.

The glaring hole is still the offensive and defensive play caller. Neither of these guys would be anything more than a position coach at most at a power team.

I am on record saying I really hope this staff succeeds. Even with all the upgrades I am very reserved. In all of my years watching football, I have never seen a HC so inept in his play calling and time management. Talent doesnt override incompetence.
I disagree with this statement. Talent tops every other measurable!
