Hayes drops a turnover MSU gets it and dunks with the shot clock expiring
Well you have to shoot from the field and hit foul shots, we don't do that yet.
Great effort but no moral victories. 5-4. On our way to the NIT.
Horrible offense for 75% of the game...great defense though. Hayes cost us a chance for the tie or win...fumbling a great defensive play that fell on the lap of MSU for a dunk
Gritty performance. These guys can play D, but lack of inside game was the factor. Love Hayes, but he just can't score. And Hudson missed 2 free throws. Still I didn't think it would be this close. Regroup and win some before the new year.
Despite the hustle, I am so over this team's, and especially Hayes', inability to put the ball through the hoop. Hayes goes 1-5 with every shot 2 feet from the basket. Team goes 36% from the field, 25% from 3, 58% from the line = complete sh#t and another bad loss on a huge stage.
I lost count the number of defensive hustle plays that fell in MSU’s lap for an easy score.
A few for sure...but we got a lot of them as well...we just didnt score on ours lol
In most of these games if we shoot 70% from the line, we win.
Missed FTs, no inside game, nobody to take over a game and win it late, still hung in there and improvements will be coming.
Hung with a great team while shooting 36%. Imagine if that number was 45%.
We’ve shot like crap most the year. I don’t think it’s a fluke at this point, our offense does not create good looks at all.
Few thoughts: 1) Does White focus at all on offense during practices or is it only defense? From our performances in his tenure, I’m leaning towards the latter. 2) Do we need a new strength coach? Feel like Mike Kent just switched over to basketball. We’ve been soft in the paint for a while now, and Hayes looks like he’s gained 2 lbs since he got here. 3) As much as I love Allen, we have to stop putting the ball in his hands late. I can’t think of a time he’s hit a big shot late but I can remember plenty of misses. Please correct me if my memory is failing me. 4) White does not hold his players accountable for reckless shots. It’s apparent he lets our guys do basically whatever they want on offense and take any contested shot at any point. Start sitting guys like you would when they have a breakdown on defense. 5) FREE THROWS! Cannot continue to shoot 50% from the FT line. Get these guys a sports psychologist or something cuz this is getting ridiculous and it’s already cost us a couple games. Alright, I feel better now
Looks like that talk with Hudson really paid off.
I did not get a chance to go to or even watch the game so I can't comment from what I saw. But I did read this entire thread and throughout the one common theme is the lack of half court offensive game plan or lack of any semblance of a half court offense. I have been Mike's #1 complainer about his lack of having any idea what half court offense looks like, so when so many others see the same thing, I think that maybe we are on to something. So am I wrong to think that if this team makes 3's they will win and if they don;t they will lose? But isn't there more to it than that? I am guessing it was a lot of dribble, while 3 or 4 other guys stand around and watch with no player movement, especially no movement with a purpose? I don;t think i is just about making shots. I think it is about shot selection and about what kind of shots are you getting out of your offense. From what others wrote here, it does not appear that we got much of anything out of the offense. the game sounds like my view of Mike. The guys play very hard for him, but in the half court the offense is quite offensive!
This is what he’s irate about. Not our abysmal showing on offense yet again. Cmon man
It’s called lack of effort.
If you watched the game, we did not lose due to lack of effort at all. If anything it was poor coaching and lack of quality shots
I saw a lack of effort in this game, but it wasn’t from the players. It was the coaching staff. Every analyst that has called our games this year mentions the lack of off the ball movement. Everyone in the thread sees it. White is looking incredibly incompetent on the offensive side of things. If I had a shooter like Locke, I’d run set plays for him at least 3-4 times a game. Do we even have set plays?
