Gators offense must improve skill positions

In 2012, when Muschamp brought in the first class he recruited entirely on his own, he stacked his defense with elite recruits. The only two ESPN 150 offensive players in that class outside the offensive line were two tight ends: Colin Thompson and Kent Taylor. They have both left the program.

Now take a look at what Florida State and Miami have done. Since 2011, Florida State has signed eight ESPN 150 players at the same four offensive positions. The Noles have hit on nearly all of them. Karlos Williams, Nick O'Leary, Rashad Greene, Kermit Whitfield and Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston are expected to be All-ACC selections or All-Americans. James Wilder Jr.was drafted a few months ago.

Kelvin Benjamin and Devonta Freeman, four-star recruits out of high school, are in the NFL, too.

Miami has signed nine ESPN 150 skill-position players over the same time frame. While the Canes have missed on some, they have hit on several key players who helped them get to nine wins a season ago. Running back Duke Johnson, receivers Stacy Coley and Malcolm Lewis and tight endStandish Dobard are starters. Receiver Phillip Dorsett, a three-star recruit in 2011, is better than anybody Florida has on its roster.

This really was a poor article.. IMO. It completely takes away from the RBs Muschamp has recruited as well as the fact that he just got two great QBs in this class. He has missed on WR and I agree that we don't have the dynamic playmaker, but it seems like some of the WRs are starting to come on.

Although Miami beat us last year.. I expect us to be a better team than Miami this year. We gave Miami that game.

We were better than Miami last year and just handed them the game.

I agree that CM must improve his recruiting at receiver. I think he did that with Fullwood and D-Rob and those guys are going to be big time this year provided Driskel stays healthy. Now he needs to get more guys like that.

You can say that again. I wonder if the writer considered the numbers for teams like Mizzou, USCe, Duke, Okie State, Stanford, Mich. St. and a lot of other programs that have found success lately without an abundance of top 150 skill position rated players. Our talent will start showing this year.

I know everyone is tired of the injury "excuse" but nobody in their right mind can discount it. We would have been a completely different team last year. Miami game showed had some issues but there is 0 chance we don't at least have a winning record and go to a bowl without all of that crap. We will be a much improved team this year but our record still may not be that great having to play the ridiculous schedule we play. 5 of the top 13 teams while teams liks Posu play 1 ranked team all year.

I agree that we were better than Miami last year. We dominated that game really. The interceptions and fumbles killed us. Contrary to what everybody thinks.. it wasn't just Driskel either.. Burton and Jones both fumbled and Burton ran the wrong route on the second INT.

The writer was an ACC beat writer (and UF Alum). This was clearly meant more to hype up FSU and UM than to beat us down (but two birds..one stone). Speaking of the UF Alum angle, I took a few elective classes in the College of Journalism. There were more than a few FSU fans over there. When asked "why don't you go to FSU?", they would reply that FSU didn't have their program. So I would ask, "why don't you support the University that can actually meet your needs?", and they would give me a blank stare. I would then add that maybe they should appreciated the opportunities given them by UF, rather than act like someone who would actually settle for FSU. Usually another blank stare, and I'd walk away angry at myself for trying to reason with a clown.

Muschamp should be getting more of the top offensive players from Florida than he has been.

cmon , did you use two or more syllable words when you talked to them? You know noles have problems with them . I mean University is both a concept and a word they have problems comprehending.

Funny thing is that on that list, Benjamin, Coley and Dorsett all didn't have the grades to get into UF. Coley also had a problem with gang affiliation and pot.We were also in the drivers seat for Derrick Harvey until he pulled some BS during his official to us and got kicked off campus and his offer pulled. I've heard and read rumors about Lane and Cook both having grade and/or test score problems, no idea if it's true but. I do agree that we've got to do a better job recruiting the O but he's done a lot better. Fullwood, Robinson, Worton, Bailey, possibly Pittman and Thompson. While I don't think he's gonna be a world beater Sousa had almost 200 receptions his last 2 years with only 3 drops, always need for a good steady possession receiver.Stephens have the physical attributes to be a huge asset at the TE , and then like ATX says he completely ignores the RB's while touting Wilder Jr. Quite frankly I'd take Taylor, Jones , Powell and Lane over him any day of the week.

Academic qualifiers, targeting, and coaching have all contributed to a total **** show on offense. We have talent now. Let's hope the coaching is what we think it can be.
