He doesn't want to 'restore', he simply wants to 'mount' and access the files. A 'restore' would be the attempt to overwrite the current hard drive of the laptop.

Windows gets people confused when using the word "Restore". This article isn't talking about "Restore Points" but incremental backup of an older system.

I hate it when somebody ask for help and is never heard from again.

Yes I did, didn't do me any good though the photos I was looking for weren't on that backup. Guess I should have let you guys know over on the computer tech board, sorry.
