I believe @stephenPE trusts the science.
Here's some science. It's a graph showing the number of times certain words denoting prejudice (like white supremacy, sexist, transphobic, etc.) appear in 47 major news outlets. It's really spiking up.
Do we believe things like racism, homophobia, and misogyny are really getting that much worse in a very short period of time? If not, then why is the media using those terms so much more now than before?
Coach's first thought might be to blame Trump, but like I said, he trusts the science and the science shows the upswing started long before Trump came down the elevator at Trump Tower to announce his candidacy (new peak in 2014).
It's almost as if constant outrage and accusing half the country of being deplorable, racist, sexist, bigots sells papers and garners clicks, even if it might not be true.
I, for one, agree with Coach. That's not the world I live in. The world I live in people help each other and get along and don't give a damn the color of your skin or who you bang in the privacy of your own bedroom. Mostly, they just want to be left alone to live their lives.

My youngest graduates junior high (8th grade) tomorrow. Last night was their awards ceremony. She is absolutely wicked smart with a near photographic memory. And she has a really dark twisted sense of humor like me.
She is sitting separate from us with all her friends. We are getting near the end of the event and I decide to start texting her.
Me: When are you getting an award? (I can see her glance at her watch and shake her head)
Me: I mean... why did I even come to this? (Now I see her show the message to her friends and they all glance over at me in horror. So it's game on)
Daughter: I bet you got all these
(there was a kid who was crushing it and getting award after award)
Me: Bently has gotten like every award. I am going to go sit with their family. (she shows the message to her friends again and now they all burst out laughing and got shushed by the lady doing the ceremony)
Daughter: She's a nerd.
Me: She's going to be your boss. (now her friends are passing her phone around to show everyone else and people sitting around them are shushing them)
Then I got the side glance/death stare from momma, so I stopped

Our daughter doesn’t understand sarcasm so it can be painful at times living with us.

It IS crazy. I would never, under any circumstance, joke like that with my oldest. But that's ok.

Now that lil seedy has graduated we are at the stage in life where I think we are all housemates without the rent. 
I’m laying on the couch last night half asleep when the alarm chimes. Son is still at work and his friends let themselves in to wait for him in the basement. I get a text from son at midnight saying he’s going swimming at one of the girl’s houses and comes back home at 4am.
