"Hertz Global Holdings, the car-rental company founded with a dozen Ford Model Ts over a century ago, filed for bankruptcy late Friday. The Chapter 11 filing in Delaware allows Hertz to keep operating while it devises a plan to pay creditors. The company has more than $1 billion cash on hand. Its biggest creditors include IBM Corp. and Lyft Inc." Hertz files for bankruptcy after rental-car demand vanishes

Sell assets and pay your bills azzhoes. I gotta admit I smiled a little when I read this. Last summer out to Vegas the Hertz clerkette at McCarran, a Chinese woman, was extremely nasty when I declined all the insurances and add-ons she was sure I needed. They must earn commissions for selling you crap you don't need. We waited in line almost an hour to get our spot at the counter. Of course the car we reserved was 'not available'. After picking another vehicle she rented us a car after taking forever to write us up. She sent us to the spot in the lot where the car would be waiting...and there was no car. Back inside with our bags and gear for another round of BS from Miss China Doll Nasty Beeitch. Of course we had to wait because she was busy berating another victim. I will never use Hertz again. Faookem.

              It’s not just Hertz.

How people treat the cars I’m surprised any make money.

Did you see the Vettes that they are selling at a discounted price of 60k. They all have less than 15k miles on them. But they are Hertz colors...yellow with black racing stripes.

Perhaps this was in the making from a very long time ago if only the tea leaves could have been read.

Industries change....new sh!t like Uber and such have been killing them for 10 years now....and yes there will be plenty of new jobs for the employees in other growing industries like delivery services, healthcare and trades.

Most of your thoughts are correct but I do have some questions that I can't ever seem to get a reasonable answer. I have heard that argument about UBER/LYFT killing the rental car business, yet both UBER and LYFT lose BILLIONS of dollars annually. Why does that not matter to those companies, but it does to rental car cos? And speaking of the KUNG FLU, would you get into a ride share vehicle? Have you seen some of those shyt clunker vehicles that UBER/LYFT allow drivers to use? I will pass. And the more of those types of workers you have the less the prices get. Good for the consumer, horrendous for the worker/company. UBER will never make money and LYFT might eventually get to breakeven.

Your view of delivery service job increases may not be wrong, but in a way does that not assume unlimited money? As of now yes we have free and unlimited money. but at what point does $30 TRILLION in debt actually matter?

All good points but to the rental car services industry directly what is killing them is the same reason shopping delivery services are booming....people don't like to drive anymore. And people don't want to wait in line anymore. I cringe at the thought of going somewhere(big city)and having to drive in traffic and on unfamiliar highways and roads.
I'm no big fan of Uber but given a choice of waiting sometimes hours for a rental car and playing bumper car in big city traffic...no thanks.

As the shopping delivery services get more popular I'd imagine they'll squeeze the retailers for more margin driving the price of the goods up more. I'm split on these types of services because we do use them for home and office(Costco mainly)but I also like to look, see and touch certain things that I buy, namely produce and meat, and I don't typically trust the dumbass shopper who barely speaks English with these items....they even f vck up about half of our take out orders from restaurants.

This hysteria doesn't destroy wealth. And will not impact our operations nor economy.

Go with National and you can avoid going to the desk. Just walk out to the garage and pick whatever car you want and you don’t have to wait

I rented from National for a couple of years and then when we got acquired by IBM, I switched over to Hertz for their much lower rates. Hertz instituted the same - "go to the garage and pick your car" type of service. You just have to sign up for their frequent renter program (just like National).

I signed with them but for whatever reason they kept requiring me to go to the counter so I stopped using them. I typically fly every week and I’m not wasting time with that nonsense. I’ve been with National now for 9 years and they give me no reason to leave
