I was in Charleston AFB for Hugo and can tell you that that place is not suited for hurricanes, much like New Orleans.

Indeed. A very wetter than normal summer in these parts. Our dumbass governor finally got around to ordering mandatory evacuations today, Dubs is hanging in at the prison for the duration, but he got his family out and inland.

Add in a kicker, the World Equestrian Games started in Tryon today, about 45 minutes west of here and 45 minutes south of Asheville, an event so big that some sort of Saudi prince rented out the entire Grove Park Inn in Asheville for the duration of it until 9/23. There are absolutely zero hotel rooms from here west all the way to Asheville. We could literally have evacuees get stuck here with no rooms. Hopefully they don't come this far west, plenty of rooms in Charlotte opening up by the minute...out of towners vacating en masse, concerts cancelled, etc. Our agency is responsible for staffing Red Cross shelters if needed, something I hope we can avoid.

It's going to be a huge rainmaker inland, and we've had t-storms each day here since Sunday that have dumped nearly an inch each day. Not a good recipe at all.

This new track might be worst case scenario.
Goung to fck up a lot of coast line, and in the worst, low lying areas.

The "wacky" model I posted yesterday from the ECM ensemble has been updated to get even wackier. Now the Natl Hurricane Center has adjusted their tracks to include the SW jog as well--which says a lot. More and more ensemble models are coming into agreement so it's a safe bet S.Carolina is going to get worse than was originally expected. And much of Georgia will see more effects as well. One interesting comment I read on one of the weather forums that bears cause to think about---given this wild model by the Euro, "Unreal there’s even the possibility that people in North Florida could end up dealing with a hurricane approaching from the...north."o_O

Here is the updated ECM ensemble:

This is just going to suck out loud for those people in the cone. Just imagine having storm force winds, rain and tidal surge hitting you for 3-4 days. The destruction is going to be massive and widespread.

I remember the first time I was going to be in a hurricane and feeling excitement to experience one of Mother Nature's biggest events. That excitement lasted about an hour into the hurricane. I wish all the best for those to be effected.

This shows it hitting land south of Myrtle Beach as a Cat2.

I wonder where 2M people could even go to. It is probably going to be very bad and damaging.

Words can't define these kinds of people.

And as one person commented where I found this...."How sad. I hope there aren’t any children there."

Being a dumb adult is one thing, but IF there are children with them and they decided to do this---God help them all. The kids can't make their own decisions, and are just at the mercy of their parents choices.

            That possibility really disturbs me.

We live in Wilmington, and we are staying. A little nervous, but we know the drill. Have been through a boatload of these. We have a safe spot, we are about 10 miles inland and surrounded by a thick woodline that gives us some wind buffer. Many stay because getting back after a storm can take days. Leaving businesses and property open exposed. I think Wrightsville, Carolina and Topsail Beaches are in for life changing events though. Those are our three primary beaches. Fran wiped out Topsail in 96. We stayed for that one too.

We have the SUV packed and gassed and traffic is lite, so if the final reports tonight show it getting stronger again or not taking the southerly turn, we will jump in and head to Augusta, GA where we have friends on standby. But noon tomorrow is our cutoof to decide.
