FML, this might be the worst season I could remember in a very long time. The damage to our program from this might actually be worse than murder. JFC. It's on ESPN and Fox news. **** Mullen for recruiting another absolute turd of a thug to this program.

To think I actually had some high hopes for this piece of $hit next season... I want to shower in bleach. Time to take a very long break from following football.
I had people blowing up my phone right after this broke all day and I'm just a fan. Very unfortunate situation for the other players and the coaches who had nothing at all to do with this disaster.

This is laughable. It had nothing to do with the program. Nothing to do with Mullen. His father was a NFL QB for 12 years, for God's sake.
I'm sorry Ox but you're wrong, this will have a devastating effect. You think the teams we are competing against won't use this in recruiting? ESPN is going to use it as another storyline into UF football where we have to hear about Hernandez again, that pedo that was in the administration a while back. I'm sure Leak's name will come up and Meyer's pics from the bar. What I don't know is how you could weed this type out of your recruiting process. He seemingly did this while on campus but if he has this stuff in his media or phone from HS then someone didn't pick through that well enough.

The young man has made a horrible mistake. His life will never be the same. Sad to see someone toss their lives away like this!
I suspect his football career is over. And as authorities take these matters very seriously, he faces significant prison time if convicted.
You have to regret the young man's lack of judgment.
He’s likely to be branded for life over this, which is necessary given the chronic nature of that crime and the sick brain that goes with it.

I don’t think it’s going to tarnish the program in a lasting way. It’s a 48-hour news cycle hit. It’s already scrolling downstream. People know these issues lurk all over the place. There’s no one in the program to blame, not Mullen or anyone else. Sure, he obviously looks like a creeper in his mugshot, and his eyes are too close together, but who could see that two days ago? Such things are done in secret and everyone around him is shocked.

If there was a pattern, cover-up etc. like Penn State it would be huge problem. There isn’t. I’m glad to see that he was caught by someone actively looking for these sick bastards.

BTW Steve Babik’s conviction was in 2010. He’s now on probation, a registered offender/predator etc.

I think this is absolutely ridiculous. Easily the worst take you've ever had. By your theory, our recruiting class should start falling apart in droves, right?

Anything social media wise that contained these images is no doubt private. He’s not posting them in some open forum. And we can’t just randomly check his phone. There has to be a measure of trust based on outward appearances that something like this isn’t being practiced.

I agree with Ox that it sucks, it will get news and will go always as it should. This is a Jalen Kitna problem, not a UF one.

Actually, UF's eventual position will likely be condemning the behavior and severing relations while at the same time trying to appear supportive of the player, knowing he has a serious problem. Feeling for the family, hoping he gets help, but no tolerance for stuff like this, holding our players to standards, yada...yada... It's a tough line they have to walk considering all the media attention.

If after UF had heard about this and they went and bailed him out of jail with UAA funds and then said they were going to start him in the bowl game until "all the facts come out", or he's "innocent until proven guilty", then I could see how it could be used to hurt the program.

He got busted, he's gone.

In that case, he shared a picture of said girl to random people on the internet, which doesn’t make his story much better. I hope for his sake and that it’s something along those lines and just poor judgement from a college kid. But as much as I often try to find “maybe” in these cases, truly hoping for the best, I don’t see a scenario where he didn’t make some serious mistakes that will cost him.

Probably his biggest error, again assuming he meant no harm initially, was not immediately getting in front of it with his parents to try and explain his mistake. The fact that people apparently(according to his words) alerted him to the issue, followed by the site itself alerting him of the problem, and he never tried to do damage control, will probably be a huge sticking point. It’s not “sorry for the misstep”. It’s “sorry, I got caught”. Unlike most of our normal hiccups, there’s just no angle that he isn’t absolutely dead in the water. Sucks because he’s not even 21 and his life is, for all intents and purposes, is likely over.

Except they flagged the guys monitoring "exploration". Maybe you LEO posters can help us out but from what I've been told from my brother...Former FED, it's probably pretty convincing to get a warrant and an arrest this dramatic.

NCMEC doesn’t F around. This was likely a sting type OP, and they were very clear with JK that whatever the images were of, those displayed in them were not of age. they send their entire recorded conversations to GPD, they go have a chat w JK.

“We are shocked and saddened to hear of the news involving Jalen Kitna,” the school’s athletic department said in a statement. “These are extremely serious charges and the University of Florida and the UAA have zero tolerance for such behavior. Jalen has been suspended indefinitely from the football program.”

Guess that's their statement.
UF, the UAA and all other institutions should adopt a ZERO TOLERANCE policy on ZERO TOLERANCE policies. How silly does it sound in the face of these charges to say in your PR statement that you have ZERO TOLERANCE for such behavior? Does this settle it, then? Was there doubt? Did anyone believe that the UAA had some limited situational kiddie porn tolerance policy--and this ZTP finally puts that notion to rest? Modern PR depts. are nothing but lazy regurgitators of bumper-sticker virtue-signaling platitudes. I’m surprised they didn’t say something about diversity and inclusion.

His life's intensive purposes are over, yes, but other than the lame "I found it on the internet so it must be legal" it appears he didn't try to find escape goats to hide behind.

I am all for forgiveness. Forgiveness does not mean forgetting. That is between him and his maker.

If Kitna did not have the ability to discern kiddie porn was totally unacceptable in the first place and to then share these images on social media to others...is a HUGE RED FLAG.

As I posted before, this truly shows me he is sick. A sickness that I have yet to hear is curable.

John Adams on raising young uns, posted on Powerline Blog:

"It should be your care, and mine, to elevate the minds of our children and exalt their courage; to accelerate and animate their industry and activity; to excite in them a habitual contempt of meanness, abhorrence of injustice and inhumanity, and an ambition to excel in every capacity, faculty, and virtue. If we suffer their minds to grovel and creep in infancy, they will grovel all their lives."
