Long time listener; first time caller...Any advice on parts places or junkyards for the cab and exterior of a 1978 Chevy C-10 Big10 edition?

I'm glad you posted your question. I have a 1980 K-10 that needs some body parts so I may look at getting some from the site I posted. You got pics of your "new" truck? Love to see some before/after photos.

I wouldn't waste a lot of time in junkyards for old used stuff. For that truck, I'd say there are LOTS of other choices to find / buy new aftermarket and replacement parts.

I’ll post some pics tomorrow when the lighting is good...I’m leaving the rustic body style but upgrading the motor transmission and drive train while adding a modern air conditioner

Getting em up tomorrow
I’m a bit of a car guy, and trucks in that era have really increased in value.

The 80’s and 90’s are considered a dead period for car collecting because the cars are just so boxy, ugly, and poorly made. However, trucks in that era are gaining value.

Just on the eve of that era, you probably have a good investment on your hands.

It runs n drives and it needs a complete interior and some body work but I got it for 800.00 I found a Chevrolet 350out of a Chevelle for 200 inc a rear end out of the chevelle and a 4 speed transmission for 200 that’s just missing the torque converter...the rebuild got the engine and tranny are 2000 total...so I’ll be around 5500 total investment with some sweat equity...I’m leaving the finish antique and putting a clear coat on it needs rocker panels and door hardware with new headlights and dash and a seat with new foam and a cloth upholstery I’m also getting a new generation air conditioner for 800 installed...I’m very very excited to get started on this

Will you be doing the rocker panel replacement yourself or hiring a body guy to do it? My '80 K-10 is in bad need of replacement rocker panels but I just can't afford the price that body shops around here charge.

Theres a guy in Ocala that charges 150 a side and uses a glass finish after welding instead of bondo...the whole lot includes cab doors and two wheel well points...it’s 225 for the kit and 300 for installation

That sounds like good pricing.

Is a 78 considered a “classic”? I’ve always considered them a “beater”.
Yeah, 78 isnt classic in anything, especially a Cheby truck.

Those 68-72s though....
