I co-teach a technology club after school to 5th graders and one of the kids was arrogantly describing the parts of a computer for competition so I pulled a massive relict off the shelf to photograph the motherboard. This beast had SCSI hard drives, sound card, 3.5" disk drive. Things he had never seen or heard of before. After explaining all the parts in there, he humbly said, "Wow, I guess I don't know as much as I thought."
Just finished up on Wednesday a Minecraft project for state competition. We have placed first and second several times over the years. This year the theme was about reconstructing a past event that had influence on the future. We built the Boston Tea Party, King George's castle, and the Boston Colonies. They told a vivid story about the unrest of today and teleported back to 1773 to find out what the Colonists did to change history. Then had to film it in a 3 minute video to submit. We needed another day to finish it up but submitted a solid project for 25 -10 year olds. It's like herding cats getting kids to be serious in Minecraft.
