Oh, we've had some doozies. It was set up that way to allow to Dems to run against eachother back in the day.

But seriously, I like it. In this election you might have 4 Dems run against Trump. Green Party, Construction Party. Who knows.

It can backfire...David Duke vs Edwin Edwards.

But it also can keep us vs them like we have now.

Love you Brother Nola but I believe @AugustaGator is essentially correct when he says, "It will always 'devolve' into a 2 party system." Maybe not literally correct, in the sense of two officially-designated political parties. But essentially correct, because in the end it will always come down to two main sides opposing each other.

That's what you see in the many democratic countries where there are more than two political parties. When campaign season rolls around, the various parties form up into coalitions and alliances, and it ends up being two main groups facing off in the election.

That's because most people tend to look at the world primarily in one of either two ways. It's human nature. You can call it Left vs. Right or Liberal vs. Conservative, for lack of better terms. Personally I like the take that Chris Matthews had on it way back in 1991 when he characterized Republicans and Democrats, respectively, as The Daddies and The Mommies:

Republicans protect us with strong national defense; Democrats nourish us with Social Security and Medicare. Republicans worry about our business affairs; Democrats look after our health, nutrition and welfare. Republicans control the White House; Democrats provide a warm, caring presence on Capitol Hill.

The paradigm for this snug arrangement is familiar. It's the traditional American family. "Daddy" locks the doors at night and brings home the bacon. "Mommy" worries when the kids are sick and makes sure each one gets treated fairly. This partition of authority and duty may seem an anachronism from the "Leave it to Beaver" era, but it's an apt model for today's political household.

Though I basically agree, I am talking about the PARTY DUALITY...US vs Them

A Rand Paul is not a Jeb Bush. But Rand is a Republican because he could not get elected otherwise.

The Tea Party was not Mitch McConell.

Take the DNC. It has been over run by Socialist.

If you are Libertarian you have no chance except as a Rebulican.

So we get two parties that don't represent America

Absolutely right G Gordon. People with common interests will form camps to advocate for their belief systems and to mutually confirm their convictions. This would happen whether the party system was (officially) abolished or not. The DNC (2016 cycle) was supposed to be neutral in Dem primaries yet conspired with one candidate to undermine another. Without political parties, backroom and underhanded deals would make machine politics even worse (if that’s even possible).

Just look to Kommiefornia. Top 2 vote getters in primaries run in the general, Regardless of political party.

There it is, the mystery. How did Williamson miss concluding that Democrats lie for all those years --- well, she's too stupid to be President.

I don't think she, or many other Dems miss knowing that the recipe includes lying--to fool as many people as possible--every day. They only grouse about it when the hate is turned against them personally.
