Good kid, played hard and will always be a Gator. Unfortunately will also always be associated with Napier and the ugly last year and a half. Wish him well in the next phase of his life.

We all knew he was unlikely to last the season. Wish him well.

That he's mediocre with a weak arm at his very best? This can be true while also wishing him the best in his non football life moving forward.

This whole tater really does suck like a black hole thing seems like it's hitting you hard. You ok, bro? Need someone to talk to about it?

I think you'll find that the overwhelming majority of fans fully support the players. It's the current set of coaches we hate.

Felipe Franks can EABOD tho

This marks the 10th time in the 15 post-Tebow years that we will have finished the season with a different QB than we started with due to either injury or suspension(‘10, ‘12, ‘18, ‘20, ‘22). Considering how stable we were from 1990-2009, it’s truly remarkable the things we’ve seen at the QB position since.

And the craziest part is it isn't even about the QB. It's still always and only about the coach.

Mertz didn't have the strongest arm, but Spurrier was successful with guys with weaker arms. The kid deserved better coaching, and always put it all on the field. He always represented the Gators very well. I wish him the best in his recovery.

Great kid! Average QB. Limited by shytty play calling. Good game manager. Huge respect for his heart and passion and dedication to the Orange and Blue and was very appreciative of it many times voicing his appreciation for UF giving him a chance. Would probably make a great Assistant Coach one day (hell, put him in charge of ST or Game Changer pronto!).

did you see Felipe yesterday make a special teams tackle for Carolina and then run around like he won the Super Bowl? It reminded me why I wasn't a fan of his while he was a Gator and definitely didn't like him as a backup QB for my Falcons. That 2018 Peach Bowl against UM is only good memory I have of him.

He went bezerk over making a routine tackle.
Embarrassing

Of course. But just considering we didn’t see a season ending injury at QB once in 20 years, it’s crazy to think we’ve seen it 10 of the last 15 years.

We’re becoming the Cleveland Browns of the collegiate QB football world.

Although he wasn't a world beater, Mertz was never the problem with this team, and he had nothing but a great attitude and seemed to do everything right throughout his time here. I will always appreciate him for that.

Classy kid and hate that he got injured. The kid had guts and grit I will give him that. Would have loved to see what a better coach could have done for him. He has a bright future no matter what he does.
