Miami Dolphins Great Mercury Morris RIP

Passed away 2 days ago. 77 years old. Somewhat surprised this hasn't been posted. Csonka and Kiick would wear opposing defenses down and then Griese would pitch the ball to the elusive Mercury who who would turn on the jets and just leave the opponent completely demoralized. Played college ball at unknown West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas in the Panhandle.

I was 10 when the ‘71 Dolphins played the longest NFL game. I think it was on Christmas Day? Triple overtime, Garo Yeprimian kicked the winning FG. I was hooked.

I can still remember most of that starting lineup. They lost the Super Bowl to the Cowboys but then won 2 straight, undefeated in 1972. First team to have 2 1,000-yard rushers.

Morris was my first “favorite player.” God rest his soul.
