Townes Van Zandt would be 77 today.
holy crap - I’ve always loved “zir’s” voice.
Love the mandolin playing in this one.
Townes had some of the best lyrics- like this one- and what a storyteller he was.
25 years ago today I saw Jeff Healey in concert at Orlando Hard Rock Cafe. It was free, supposed to be outside but it rained. We had to wait a couple of hours for the restaurant to clear out. We finally got in and sat on the floor just a few feet in front of a small stage, waiting another hour for equipment to set up. It was worth the wait. He was an unforgettable person who gave much more to this world than it gave to him.
While I appreciate the sidebar commentary, wish I could have seen him playing.
just for you NV:
Big Exhale. Why isn’t that on an album?
Saw Doyle Lawson at the Franklin Theater in Franklin, Tennessee and also in Cookeville, Tennessee. Doyle is keeps the tradition of the sparkly jackets alive. He's a great gentleman who loves God and country.
Now that's "Ole School"
I used to live in Franklin- and really enjoyed that theater. and yes - Doyle is old school. This one is when he was with Charlie Waller and the Country Gentlemen.
That's a beautiful song that would have benefited by waking the bass player up from his snooze and letting her trade off on fiddle with that dude playing some lead licks on that white telecaster.
Not to hijack the thread but did you ever visit the Carter Farm while in Franklin?
I didn't, but I saw the signs for it. And... the city finally had to start limiting and eliminating businesses from encroaching on the Battle of Franklin battleground. I think that one battle over that weekend had the highest number of Generals killed in a single battle in the entire war...
Critical battlefield barrier removed for 20-acre park
