Well that was a jump. Doesn’t surprise me that you would make that jump. These are college kids. The only thing that this affects is your poor little feelings. If a kid has an opportunity to have an athletic future that’s been compromised by this, he should be able to get an extra year of eligibility.

I don’t think anybody really cares about whether you have some type of political agenda or hurt feelings about it.

So, you're willing to compromise the athletic future of incoming Freshmen and other lower classmen to achieve this "feel good" short-term goal. I think there are very few kids who have finished their 5 years of eligibility that need that extra year to go pro.

How are they compromised? Not every kid is going to do this. Most kids will graduate and move on with their lives. I’m not sure why you’re making a mountain out of a mole hill. This is a good thing for the future of the kids.

Every "super senior" who plays is taking playing time away from other kids who need the playing time to develop. It's unfortunate if some kids miss their 5th year of eligibility, but I think that results in less overall harm.

It seems that most are discussing only football, there are plenty of other sports which will be affected. For spring type sports allow all players the option of a redshirt with seniors to be allowed an additional year if they have used their redshirt. I bet many won't do this expect in sports without professional opportunities.

Is football included in the ncaa's discussion? Football season wasn't interrupted, so I don't see why it should. I thought this involved the late winter and spring sports?

Football is not included in the discussion YET. If dates keep getting pushed out who knows. And if I read it correctly, it applies to all athletes not just seniors. So further complicating things. I guess theoretically some could be around for 6 years, one for this, and another redshirt year. I doubt many would choose that, but there would be some.

If this ends up happening then I’d hope they would not count these athletes against the scholarship limits. To do so would end up depriving some deserving HS seniors of a scholarship.

Ya thats why I think while well intentioned, it would just create more of a mess and more negative impact on others than anything. Even if they allow limits to be relaxed. Not all athletic departments can absorb the additional costs which can create an unfair advantage. This whole event has been quite the exception. Why legislate for something like this.

I read a good write up about the impacts of this in The Athletic. This is going to cause issues, not only financially (for the school and the athlete) but also w/ roster management. Many of the non-revenue sports only offer partial scholarships and for the athlete going to - say a Vanderbilt or Stanford, where the tuition is $40k+, it's going to cause them (and the school) a lot of money just to play another season.

Did I hear correctly that while giving the extra year, they were not going to allow the increase in scholarships? So its the big middle finger to incoming freshman?

That's what I'm hearing. Maybe it works that programs encourage weaker players of all classes to 'move on'?
