The changes in the recruiting industry-generated 247Sports Composite for the 2018 class following the latest updates begin with a new addition to the overall top 10.

Houston (Texas) Lamar cornerback Anthony Cook moved up seven spots to No. 9 overall. The U.S. Army All-American is now the industry’s top prospect in the state of Texas and nation’s No. 2-ranked cornerback prospect. Current 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions for Cook include LSU (40 percent), Texas (30 percent) and Ohio State (20 percent).

The top prospect in Alabama moved up nine spots to No. 22 overall and added a fifth star. Phenix City (Ala.) Central wide receiver Justyn Ross now ranks as the nation’s No. 4 wide receiver prospect and recently mentioned Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Florida State as his favorites. The in-state Tigers have the early lead on the Crystal Ball.

In other words, being at the right camp is more important than game tape.
Its probably a bit of both. The problem with most game tape is the player will often be the only Div 1A or Div 1AA player on the field.

Also they do committees at both 247 and Rivals to update rankings so just because the change comes in April doesnt mean its all camps. In fact many, probably most, camps are in the summer.

I never will forget watching the game between Kelvin Taylor and that LB that ended up going to Bammer. That was a great game.

We won't have a solid ranking to start for 2018 recruiting until Fall, Camps aren't in full swing. A lot of change can happen during camps, and a lot of kids spend that Junior to Senior year training harder to get to the next level.

Just for fun I went through the top 50 kids. We have zero commits and lead for a total of one of them and are in the running for a whopping one more that's not committed.

Again, do not expect much top end talent in our next class. It's just not there.

2019 looks like it is starting out ok but none of the commits are in the top 150(yet).

I don't understand why we can't get any of the top guys here.

I did the same search under DT's. There are 50 DT's listed and we are listed on two players lists (along w/ 5+ other schools).....and the highest ranked is somewhere around #34 and the other is #38. I know we signed 3 DT's but we should always sign 1 to 3 per cycle. We are on a few DE's list though. Maybe they intend to grow the DE signees into DT's?

It's so odd to not be on so many top kids lists.

When you were looking, have we even offered?

Feel free to. If we haven't offered kids in the top 50 for 2018 by now and we expect to offer so late in the game...no wonder we suck balls at recruiting.

We had ONE top 100 kid last year. Why would that change next year? LOL.

Good luck!
