are you visiting right now? cool video.......

No, just reminiscing. It's one of my favorite cities. Was there in late September, though. Visited the new 9/11 exhibit. It's quite involved.

Spent a summer between HS years (1980) in Bayside, taking the LI railroad into Penn Station, then subway to Battery Park and walk over to Smith Barney where my Dad was a stock broker and he got me a job in the mail room. Sat behind home plate at Yankee Stadium. Saw Rita Moreno in West Side Story. Lot of good memories.

You lived on the celebrity side. I was there for six months, 78th and York. I practically subsisted off the pizza by slice store around the corner. Used to jog alongside the FDR, staring the whole way south at the 59th Street Bridge. It was a great place to live and yet it sucked. No in betweens in NY.

Celebrity side. I lived in in Spanish Harlem. I had a huge project housing complex at the corner of the street. Had to walk 4 blocks to the laundry mat. Grocery was 6 blocks away. All of which had to walk through or beside this "celebrity" housing project.

The greatest thing every was on 103rd and Amsterdam. It was a store disguised as a "record store". You walked in and it was just a giant plexiglass both wrapped in reggae record cover. There was a small window opening, like a bank teller, and you just ordered whatever drug you wanted. No big deal.

I believe it. The weird thing about Manhattan is, just as your describe, all of that crud is going on there while, about eight blocks to the south, you've got million dollar apartments and art galleries. You go in and out of bad or good neighborhoods so quickly, it almost snaps your neck. It's crazy.

86th and Columbus - 91 - 92 - worked in Midtown around 6th and 36th.

Had a blast... mainly drinking and going to sporting events/concerts.
