WELCOME TO CONSERVATISM COACH! You’re one of us, you just don’t know it. Alex.
Coach, start a separate "What's wrong with the school system" thread. It's worthy of it's own discussion.
If the government did away with idiotic drug patents and allowed a free market in pharmaceuticals, that insulin would probably cost $10. Since the drug companies run the FDA they are perfectly happy with the status quo.
Then what motive would a pharmaceutical company have for developing drugs?
That's the BS excuse the drug industry uses. Only a small handful of drugs are approved under the present system. The drug companies spend far more on marketing than on research. The fact that some companies have patents discourages other companies from doing research. Drug companies will not develop drugs that might compete with their present products, and since they may own patents no other company will research those potential drugs. Drug companies make drugs. The companies that make generic drugs are, for the most part, very competent and make excellent products. There is no logical reason why the company producing the drug should be the one researching the drug. The government spends a fortune supporting research in universities. When universities actually discover something useful they patent it and sell the patent to a drug company. Logically, it makes no sense to own an idea. If I have a pen and you take it, you've stolen my pen. If I think about a pen and you make that pen, you haven't stolen anything from me. As far as I am concerned, patent attorneys serve no useful function in society. Here are some downloadable references on the subject:
This is one seriously fked up thread.
I bet she farted dust then, too.
I wonder how all these govt officials have such high net worth when they do it for the people.
Making $10 on a product that cost them 12 cents to make in the quantities they make.
