Ladies and gentleman, here we are again. Last year around this time, I started this thread coming off a hideous loss to Arkansas, and was so depressed it felt dirty to ask for help. This year, we’re heading into perhaps the most difficult month in the history of UF with a team that has been (to put it kindly) underwhelming. Fans are beaten down, miserable, angry. As a result, I still feel dirty about donation month – it’s like asking a man who just came from putting down his dog to buy you dinner.
I like to think Gatorchatter provides value even when the product is poor, and the product has been mostly poor over the ten years of our existence. That hasn’t stopped an amazing core group of members from contributing content nearly every day. It’s an online family that talks about a lot more than just sports.
You have no idea how much I want to have a contending team to follow. I want to get excited to watch and talk about it. I want to be able to have the motivation to do podcasts and contests and merchandise and other things. Unfortunately, we’re stuck in a bad place yet again, where we’re simply waiting for the other shoe to drop and we can start the coaching process over again. It will (eventually) happen, hopefully with a little more excitement this time around.
Deep inside me, I still have hopes to take Gatorchatter to another level. I’ve always dreamed about this place serving as a hub for all Gator news from sources all over the internet. If you come here, you can get linked anywhere. An even higher dream is to have Gatorchatter as part of an SEC hub that connects all 16 teams, in which fans can (for better or for worse) easily interact with each other. I’ve got a lot of crazy ideas in that regard.
Your fearless leader can at times be moody, petty, wrong, and ridiculous, yet I always get forgiven by my friends here and am generously allowed to show my face again. I am grateful for that. No matter what I end up doing, the core group, who has always been extremely generous to me, will not have to pay for content. “Lifetime” memberships will mean just that.
However, if you peruse Gatorchatter frequently (as a member or a lurker) and find value in it as part of your life, I'd be very appreciative if you'd give. Online ad revenue is less than 50% of what it was before COVID, while expenses have gone up. Don't think of it as giving money to me, but to the platform. Consider how much money in property damage you’ve avoided after inexcusable losses because you were able to vent here – it’s probably thousands of dollars a year at this point.
There is a "Donate" link at the top of page where you can make a donation via Paypal. If you can't/won't use Paypal, just shoot me a PM or email me at [email protected].
Thanks for all the support just by being here, whether you give or not. Means a lot.
