Another way to look at it, from a staffing perspective, may be that we need more staffers. It's something a lot of us (led by Law) have been harping on; lack of resources - or refusal to keep up with the Jones' (by hiring a similar number of staffers to handle these "little" issues. Honestly, there should be a staff that handles daily life of these athletes (which I'm sure there is some sort of staff, but is it staffed properly?). Anyhow, who knows? But it seems the schools who are dominating recruiting (and winning titles) have significantly larger staffs than we do - from analysts & quality control staff to administrative & recruiting staffers. Honestly, if we upped the budget $500K we could hire another 8 to 10 staffers (as most could be lower/entry level at the $35-$50K level).

Where are you seeing that he has to sit out? He was released from his LOI he’s not transferring. He can’t sign another LOI but can sign financial aid papers, enroll, and play. This is not a transfer so he doesn’t have to sit out

Can Evans sign another letter of intent?
No. Recruits are not allowed to sign two NLI in one cycle, per NCAA rules. Evans can offer a verbal commitment to a program, however, and does not have to sit a year because Georgia released him fully from his letter of intent.

We're done paying Butters, Randy Shannon's, and Muschamp's buyouts now (according to our latest financial disclosures). Let's put that money to good use by adding to the support staff. I wonder what we offered Charlie Strong (compared to Alabama).

I agree that Steele is a left coast dooshbag. That doesn't alter the fact however that we carried a big fat blackeye around for quite a while as a result of taking a chance on a troubled kid - and then not monitoring him closely. I actually don't give two hoots in hades about either of those guys at this point. I am much more concerned about whether or not DM and staff are learning from their past mistakes. A second consecutive off-season from hell is the last thing this program needs. Just saying.

No, I definitely agree it was reported, I just dont see it as a big black eye. It was merely a blip, and most folks believe Steele has commitment issues, is a headcase, and was looking for a way out.

The credit card scandal was a black eye imo.

Both are, I believe the only people still talking about commit issues is our own fanbase. Now comparatively the credit card scandal is 1000 times worse. But the fact that it was reported and we had to react to staffers not taking his complaints into account, how easy is that for a rival recruiter to bring up to a family of a potential recruit.

And the national media - ad infinitum, ad tedium, ad nauseum. Did you seriously not see and hear the negative garbage from just about everyone with a microphone or a keyboard that went on well into the season? Really? Also, as I recall we had at least two (Langston, Rucker) 2021 recruits who rescinded their commitments almost immediately after the schytt hit the fan. So while there were plenty of UF fans upset about the situation, the negative response certainly wasn't limited to Gator Nation. Not trying to be a doosh about it, but that was an ill-considered question if ever there were one.

That's not really the point I was trying to make in my original post - I'm not crying over spilt milk. I'm suggesting that we not spill anymore due to the same clumsiness and inaction that was on display for all the world to see last year. Just f'n learn from our f'n mistakes for cryin' out loud. Staff up, listen better, anticipate the possibility of trouble from kids who have had similar problems on multiple occasions in the past - and then mentor/monitor them as circumstances dictate. We can't recruit nothing but eagle scouts, but we absolutely MUST pay attention to any red flags, both before and after signing a kid. If it takes more or better people to achieve that then so be it.

It may have been reported widely, but not endlessly.. I heard more about him being a douche for transferring twice within a couple months than the situation causing him to go in the first place..

You are all about making excuses for this staff and it doesn't even matter the subject. His roommate was being accused of sexual assault (twice) and his name was being brought through the mud on both local and national media. How quickly should they have acted?

As far as reported on a television in a national forum on ESPN, CBSSports, and at least the SEC Network (just a quick search). In the written national media USA Today, ESPN, CBS, Rivals, Yahoo, etc...

Now the story of him choosing Oregon and then switching to USC did get more time span of air, because of the time frame it took 2 months and how quickly Florida choose to release Jones and allowing Steele to leave his LOI without penalty. But if you were his parent, you name is being dragged through the mud by association of a roommate you didn't choose, how quickly would you want that change.

That is just the case people remember the transfer schit more because it was two months of where will he go, then it was Oregon no it's USC. But after one horrible fit and non-responsive staff wouldn't you go as soon as you felt it wasn't a fit.
