From the Daily Mail - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...h-insurance-says-bombshell-budget-report.html

Exerts follow: [h=1]Obamacare program costs $50,000 in taxpayer money for every American who gets health insurance, says bombshell budget report[/h]
    • Stunning figure comes from Congressional Budget Office report that revised cost estimates for the next 10 years
    • Government will spend $1.993 TRILLION over a decade and take in $643 BILLION in new taxes, penalties and fees related to Obamacare
    • The $1.35 trillion net cost will result in 'between 24 million and 27 million' fewer Americans being uninsured – a $50,000 price tag per person at best
    • The law will still leave 'between 29 million and 31 million' nonelderly Americans without medical insurance
    • Numbers assume Obamacare insurance exchange enrollment will double between now and 2025

Over 10 years, $5000/year per head of Medicaid or exchange subsidies, I guess not shocking. Some of the costs may be attributable to increased coverage on existing recipients, not just the new ones.

These numbers do not include the $700 billion of medicare saving in ACA - and that savings number is probably higher now, because the medicare cost curves are going lower (ie savings higher) than originally anticipated.

In 2014, govt fed govt medical care projections came in $90 billion lower than prior projections!!

      http://kaiserhealthnews.org/news/cbo-projects-lower-medicare-and-medicaid-costs/

Part of the 30 million that remain uninsured is due to Republican states who refuse to enact Medicaid expansion, based upon supreme ct ruling. So don't blame Obama for that one.

Thanks again for showing that ACA is a huge success!! Thanks Obama!!

If you like your heath care plan, you can keep your health care plan. Families will save $2,500 per year on health insurance.

DontDon't bring this BS. The only reason the premiums are not through the roof is because of rocketing deductibles. What we called high deductible plans preObamacare are now just normal plans. Total out of pocket cost for consumers are higher than ever.

That's not exactly what CBO said. But I won't deny high deductibles are becoming more common, which ironically years ago is what conservatives wanted, and is probably helping to drive health care costs down (for better or for worse)

So, with Obamacare we get the benefit of both high premiums (which used to be a result of low deductible plans) plus high deductibles and co-pays. So you are out of pocket at the get-go due to high premiums and then again if you ever use the insurance.

Add in the limited selection of doctors and making people pay for coverage they have no possible need for and you can see why Obamacare remains so popular.

As usual when an idea is bad but somehow conservatives (some of them) supported it a bad idea becomes good because conservatives once supported it. Now the facts are that the costs have increased. We have an expensive computer system to sell insurance, we have many productive people doing new tasks like following up, educating, etc. Nobody that I have heard of has been fired, but some hospitals and ERs have been closed (this does save money but at what price to the people who were served). We have a study from Oregon that indicates that the Medicaid expansion will cost money (folks getting meds and care) but their health (physical) was not improved. Now perhaps not enough time has passed some improvement might happen.

Now the bottom line is health care in the US is expensive, the employees are paid well, the meds are expensive, and we have massive fixed assets assigned to it.

Some never really admit to anything other than what they want to believe or what their masters tell them is correct, they are a lost cause. The best we can hope for is that alternatives will be listened to and the actual situation will become clear through the fog created by many.

Okay, so the line "if you like your health plan, you can keep your health plan" was a lie. And the line "if you like you doctor, you can keep your doctor" was also a lie. But that's all okay because increasing co-pays and deductibles to much higher levels reduced some premiums.. So now people have insurance they can afford to pay for but can't afford to use.

Well perhaps not a lie but rather a view that believes what they find favorable, sort of like some posters who ignore parts of the links that they post and focus only on the parts that agree with their uneducated selves.

I have not seen evidence that overall, systematically and nationwide, premiums have gone up by abnormal amounts, for any particular deductible or out of pocket level. I am sure everybody can share some anecdote of somebody who's premiums went up, but overall I haven't seen nation-wide data supporting that. The point the CBO data made is the exchange plans are actually less expensive and more tightly managed than employer plans - for comparable levels of deductibles and out of pockets.

The trend to high deductibles was long before Obama. The HSA was actually part of the medicare part D legislation enacted by republicans during GWB admin.

See, I told ya the Daily Mail in the UK has better news about America than America does...

And I'm still confused... we were told pre-PPACA that there were 30 million uninsured, so how can there be 2-31 million "non-elderly" Americans without insurance by 2025? Math hurts!

Well Gee I wonder what "abnormal amounts" are in increasing premiums. Now my corporate plan went down but became more restrictive on what drugs I could employ. I thought the new plan was to save money in total for the consumers, not have increases. But who knows what Obama math and accounting might mean.
