I posted this in the chat box earlier. Is this even allowed? Will anything be done or said?
Definitely has the appearance of pay for play...
Your move NCAA.
So stupid and unnecessary. These guys will be making millions in a few months.
LSU wants us to believe it was just Monopoly money.
You can’t fix stupid.
It's Odell Beckham we're talking about here. If he were going to be filmed giving anything to a young male athlete on the sidelines, frankly I'm glad it was money.
Jefferson, who got paid, is probably going pro. He gave up his eligibility at the quickest opportunity. Technically, it’s not a violation if he never plays for LSU again. (I’m sure Odell would never pay a dude with eligibility left. )
Anyone believe it's fake money?
Nope but they changed it to fake money right away...
Not a violation. Just paying off their bet on the game.
So, the guy who played in an actual NFL regular season game while wearing a $275k watch... was giving out monopoly money to players at his alma mater after winning the CFB. Right. Got it.
Technically his eligibility is up if he never plays another down for LSU. Therefore he would be free to sign a contract with a pro team and he would be in violation of nothing. But this look like he was being paid for his performance while he was in an LSU uniform and still playing for LSU. Not a good visual. A lot of old guys like me see something like this and it makes us not like college football anymore although everybody knows there is corruption in the college game. I'm not naive, but this was so blatant and out in the open. I don't think anything will come of this. There will be no investigation by the NCAA, LSU or anybody else seeing how Coach O and LSU are the new media darlings so there is nothing to see here. There is so much corruption on all sides that no one is called out for digressions. It's just going to be another example in our society where no one is held accountable and the average fan is just supposed to believe it is fake money.
#2 going pro so nothing to see here. But, who is #13?
Yeah, inquiring minds want to know.
Odell just trying to bring attention to himself and steal part of the moment. I wish Matt Elam was there to strip his a$$ again, he could probably use the money.
My impression is that OBJ told them that if they won the game then he would give them x amount of $$$. And he held true to his promise on national TV. It was stupid and very disrespectful to all sides imo. Violation or not, there is no place for that kind of behavior in college football or any sport. All they had to do was keep It to themselves, but they just had to showboat on national TV. It was intentional, no doubt, and should be a violation because it sends a message to recruits. LSU was a very good team this year, and the actions of OBJ and the few players that took the money disrespected that and all the hard work that it took to make it happen. I hope that I never see that with UF; I like the tradition of winning championships with class.
Good point. If this issue went full gorilla litigation, a very strong argument could be made that Odell, a former player and likely booster, paid Jefferson for services rendered as an NCAA athlete, with the knowledge and cooperation of LSU. Thus, LSU knowingly allows its players to be paid for their services while at LSU. Just because the funding occurs after eligibility is irrelevant. If you promise to pay me $3,000,000 in 2023 for services rendered today, you kneaux, I’d render those services ASAP.
