From just poor play to outright horrendous coaching, this was a terrible half. Can't run against a 3 man D line, so Vandy is dropping 8 on every play. Lucky not to have been picked off multiple times, but until your 5 can block their 3, then it will continue. Can't force the ball thru these guys, just have to check it down. If the running game does not get going , this game could be close as we know our defense will EFF up a bunch.

Speaking of the D, have you ever seen a dumber group of players along with the poorest coaching? The entire defense is running around like chickens with their heads cut off every play as the ball is being snapped. No one knows their assignment or recognizes the formations. Yes, we have almost no talent on D, but that does not excuse the inability to know one's assignment, even if your coach has no idea what the hell is going on.

I don't think there is a decent, i.e., dominant, defense in D1 this year. Somehow the rules and COVID have conspired against the D. A long time ago we used to say the defense started ahead of the offense cause less skill and coordination is required. That doesn't seem to be true anymore.

If Grantham enters Spring practice as the DC, CDM will be well on the way to sealing his own fate. The shabby excuse for a defense we've seen all season long is a disgrace, and beyond the end of this season the only one to blame will be Dan Mullen. The offense is struggling, which to some extent I can ride with, schytt does occasionally happen. But the defense is putrid because the coaching is putrid. Fire TG or forget ever winning anything of significance. This is line in the sand time.

 

All true, but in games against real opponents, you have to at least be competent mentally if not physically. We are not even a Zillion miles from competent yet. I would settle for learning how to line up, you know the thing you learn the first day of Pop Warner practice.
