Why in the world are my sons obsessed with this song? They aren’t that familiar with the video but geez.

It's because of the story behind it.

      Here's the story...

The song was 1st released by the rapper. Never heard of him.
      It didn't do well.

Then, it was redone with a "bonafide" country royalty in Billy Ray Cyrus and re-released and has made everybody bat shytt crazy for the song.

I'm meh about it and think it's more about going over the top to show inclusion for something that was construed as racist and so by getting behind this really shows you're NOT racist. But none of it is at all racist so it's really about perception of racism.

Oh, and BRC is an embarrassment to country music and as a father, imo, but because his crazy daughter that is loved by millennials once licked a piece of heavy equipment used for destruction, while naked, it is somehow deemed cool/good yadda yadda yadda.

this isnt quite true, but I guess it's all how you look at it. I had to look up a bunch of it. The rapper wanted Billy ray on it from the beginning, but the unheard of rapper didnt have any connections. The song was getting popular on the internet and social media but truly exploded mainstream when the previously unknown rapper got Billy ray to help. Fun fact I picked up - the music was originally nine inch nails, sampled by another unknown dude and sold to previously unknown rapper for $30. At least so says wikipedia.
