Not gonna lie. I reread all my posts in this thread and still wasn't sure what you were quoting.

The little reverse arrow next to the name of the poster being quoted takes you back to the post being quoted.

Yeah, he might not be in Tim Tebow's league when it comes to character. Yeah, Pete Rose was an arrogant jerk. Charle Hustle, Big Red Machine and all that jazz.

My wife and I drive the 15 or so miles to frequent a local restaurant in Manchester, Tennessee. Down the hall right at the entrance to the bathrooms there is a large framed picture of Pete Rose batting. He's wearing a vintage Reds uniform; you know the flannel sleeveless kind with the red long sleeved undershirt. Early to mid 1960s. Pete signed the photo and wrote on it "To Pizza Jim, Manchester's finest". I have wondered if the location of the photo carries any significant of if Pizza Jim couldn't find anywhere else to hang it.

I mentioned to the little waitress who waits on us how I thought the Pete Rose picture was very cool. She said that Pete had a friend who lived in Manchester. Pete was in town on his birthday visiting his friend and the friend brought him to this little restaurant for dinner. This explains the signed picture on the wall. The waitress said when she went home after work she said to her husband, "Guess who I waited on today?"

I know Johnny Bench has said he thinks it is right that Pete has been banned from the HOF. Bench has said do you want to tell your children that betting on games you manage in is ok? I don't believe what Pete Rose did was right, but I think he should be in the Hall based on his playing record on the field. I don't think it will ever happen.

I also think Joe Jackson should be in the HOF. Shoeless Joe, Black Sox Scandal, Greenville, SC. It's been a long time. Past time to show a little forgiveness. Not going to happen.

I have no issue with Rose being inducted posthumously. He paid his debt.

As for Rose signatures, he has to have signed more autographs than any athlete in the history of sports. His signatures are so worthless, you'd actually have to pay someone to take one off your hands.

Can confirm the first part. Not sure about the second part.

I guess this was really in reference to Bud Harrelson, but I think they were about the same height.

I tower over him. But also, Rose is old and I was lit and quite pissed about how dinner had gone the night before. It would’ve been one punch and done. Believe me.

One of the biggest pricks I’ve ever met. No one will miss his company.
A truly odious person. He had sex with a minor. He refused to support his out-of-wedlock kid. He did prison time for tax evasion. He didn't just "gamble," he bet on baseball. And he didn't just bet on baseball, he manipulated his lineups and tired out his arms as a manager when he was betting on his game. About the best you can say about him as a player is that he played for a long time. His career .784 OPS is 638th all-time. Behind about 500 people who never made it to the Hall. He was also a career negative fielder. And he was a dirty player to boot. Despite all that, all he had to do was admit that he bet on baseball, and he would have been reinstated. He was too self-important to do that, and his fragile ego wouldn't allow him to tell the truth. Just a truly awful individual, and if Shilling and Joe Jackson can't get in, this piece of garbage sure as hell shouldn't either.

He always played hard and I admire the toughness. Pete wasn't a pussy, I'll give him that.
He was an ******* though and a poor man's version of Tony Gwynn IMO. Still a well respected
player that is worthy of a HOF nod. I would've enjoyed seeing him beat the hell out of that worm jim gray.

Jim Gray - what a doosh!

Why would he do that interview on a festive night?

Not sure what to make of the time he separated the catcher’s shoulder during the All Star Game.

Some say: that’s hustle. Others say: what an @sshole.

That's what your mom said about me, except the company part. I don't watch baseball and respect players like Pete because they were all such nice guys. I am sure there are tons of guys in the baseball HOF that are not the greatest of folks.

You mean the time the catcher blocked the plate w/o the ball? He got his azz trucked. Had Riopele done that to the LSU catcher to win the CWS would you know what to make of that?

It was an exhibition game. It’s ok to slide there, Charlie Try-Hard.
BTW, You sound like the type of guy who “works the count” in a company softball game.

Rose even corked his bats, at least in his later years.

jfovnbrsdklmlque9pnh.jpg

Longer if you believe the guy employed by the Expos to work the visitor's clubhouse later in Rose's career. It was there that he claims he corked Rose's bats with a machine hidden under a tarp.

Don't ask how the "visitors" never became aware. It's all kinda bizarre.

“The guy (Greenberg) was saying Rose had been corking his bat for 20 years,” Jammer said. “The guy said that nobody checks him because he’s a singles hitter.”
