OK, I know we're not talking muscle cars, but in 1972 (5 years old), my best friend's dad was a senior guy in the Detroit PD (He was old. Robbie was a "menopause oops baby," next youngest brother was 18, his oldest sister was 37 then) and he came home everyday in an unmarked 72 Plymouth Fury III with the 440 and 727 Torqueflight... It was ugly, but pretty bad ass.

My Dad worked at the Ocala Chevy dealer when the Vegas came out, Said some had rust on them straight from the factory. And that non sleeved aluminum engine was the schiff. But put steel sleeves in them and they ran quite well. A 350 fit right into them easily.

Ahhh the Chevette, What can I say about it?, Not much in reality. Crappy to fix (try to change the starter on a high end model with auto, ac and power brakes).
One thing about the shuvette is if you were running anything over 30 and cranked the parking brake it would twist the rear end housing.

One of the salvage yard guys down here brought a diesel chevette to the 1st Super Chevy Sunday in Gainesville and ran it in the street brackets, 26.1 @55 mph. Went 5 or 6 rounds, I schiff you not.

Our body man at the time ran a shuvette in SCCA road racing, Believe it or not but Chevy actually made a warmer cam for it, Didn't help though.

My parents had a Panasonic AM/FM stereo with turntable and.... QUADRAPHONIC 8 track deck... WHO'S COOL NOW!!!!

PS Somewhere in a box, I think I still have a Santana and Alice Cooper (Goes to Hell) QUADRAPHONIC 8 track from back then. Top THAT buddy! ;)
The best part about eight tracks was when it switched programs in the middle of a song. I was explaining this to my kids once and they thought I was making it up.
Believe it or not those cassettes of yours (assuming they are in good condition) are possibly worth more than you paid for them. I can't remember the album, but I recall seeing some 8 track in original condition selling for $500. (I was immediately reminded of the adage of a fool and his money.)

My first car in the 70’s was a 65 Malibu. Engine 194 straight six was reliable, but the damn thing would rust sitting in the sun! Quality, ool

65 SS was probably my favorite body style of the 60s Chevys. There are 2 (1 cherry and one in what looks like rehab in a lot near me) I wasnt aware of the 194, more familiar with the 235 which was standard on the early Corvettes with 3 single barrel carbs and the 2 speed Powerglide. I think i may start a new picture thread called Wounded Warriors (hot rods in dis-repair)
