POLL: What will be our run/pass ratio?

For the record, we ran on 91% of the plays versus Georgia. I am just wondering if we believe that we

  • 80-100% run, 0-20% pass

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • 60-80% run, 20-40% pass

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • 51-60% run, 40-49% pass

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • More passes than runs

    Votes: 0 0.0%

True but I would say that was due to the defense shutting everyone down mostly. We weren't ramming it down most good teams throat except LSU and FSU.

Then how did Gillislee get over 1000 yards rushing in 2012? Obviously we were being successful in more than just two games in 2012.

I don't think our offensive numbers were impressive at all in 2012 we just got away with that because of the great defensive play obviously. What has Arkansas ran for during this SEC losing streak of theirs?

Half of our offense was impressive in 2012. You can't say the running game was unimpressive and be serious.

As far as Arkansas, their problem is their defense, not their offense.

We were ranked 36th in the country in rushing in 2012. 111th in passing.

Right, which shows that we were successful in running the ball in 2012. Are you saying we weren't?

As far as just purely the numbers, I don't consider 36th in rushing for an elite school like UF to be good, no - especially an offense designed around rushing the ball and throwing as little as possible. Below average when you think about it, actually. Having a "1000 yard back" isn't unusual in college football, Wobble. Tons of schools have one every year.

Auburn is an example of a rushing offense that actually gets results. #1 in the nation last year and near the top this year.

I understand that, but many of the schools that run well have an offense that is at least competent in the passing game. Our running game was handcuffed due to our lack of passing ability. This is why I say we had an impressive running game in 2012.

I think you and I watched two different teams in 2012.

Auburn only passed for 25 more yards per game than our 2012 numbers in 2013 but had 140 more yards rushing per game and much of their low passing yards were to wide open guys due to that rushing attack.

They also had a system that still made the pass a threat. UF didn't in 2012. The fact that everyone knew exactly what we were going to run and we still were able to gain yardage was impressive.

I guess Air Force and GT is really impressive then as they blew our rushing numbers away.

When our rushing attack was a singular person compared to their triple option, yes it is.

There hasn't been anything impressive about our offense since 2009.

Two words: Nick Marshal.

You CAN NOT under estimate how valuable he was to that running attack. It was a thing a beauty. You really NEVER knew where the ball was gonna go. How many times did the camera guy get faked out last year.

In 2012, everybody and their mother knew we were handing the ball to Gilly...

If you go back to the first couple games you have to believe that Roper wants to toss the ball around. We were very balanced and we took a handful of deep shots with JD. They even let Treon take some deep shots in that first game. We were pretty balanced even though a lot of our passes were short screens. Roper isn't an idiot. He knows we will have to throw more to win. I just want to see some solid development on Saturday night against a JV team.

Muschamp teams never do things in preparation for future games. Or does someone have an example that I've forgotten?

Eastern Michigan? :dunno:

Still, point taken. I haven't seen nearly enough offensive success in combination with playing in ways that accomplish more than merely trying to secure a victory in the current game. I would like to see reporters ask these kinds of questions at media events instead of "How excited were you for Michael McNeely on Saturday?" and "How glad are you that you won the Georgia game?"
