Here’s some info from a 247 poster about our current talent. Mullen has definitely upgraded talent. Mainly through portal. But we’re still miles behind a couple of our peers.

POST

This time last year GatorFanatic247 put out a list of all of our scholarship players in rank order from highest to lowest. I haven't seen him (her?) around for a while so I took the liberty of updating that list for attrition and the latest recruiting class w/ transfers for 2021. In order to compare "apples to apples" with how 247 calculates the team talent composite, I used only the HS grades (JUCO for D. Black) vs. transfer grades and kept special teams players in there. I also included all the seniors who are returning even though they won't count toward our scholarship count (why we are over 85) because I expect those to be counted when the team talent rankings come out. We probably won't see that list get updated until the Fall (which, again, makes about as much sense as a football bat), but when it does come out, I think many will be surprised at where we fall in the rankings

2020 -> 2021 change:
5*: 4 -> 7
4*: 43 -> 52
Blue Chips: 47 -> 59
BC Ratio: 58.0% -> 67.8%
Avg: .9021 -> .9102

Bottomline: We won't know for sure until 247 releases their 2021 update based off of their super secret GAUSSIAN DISTRIBUTION FORMULA, however I think we'll be ranked #5 ahead of LSU and Texas with a score in the 900s based off of the above. This doesn't put us in the top tier with Bama, UGA, and OSU but we're definitely getting better year over year and puts us in that next tier w/ great roster balance and a solid (if not very good) pipeline&development at the most important position (#UGAsucks). I like our chances boys.

Mainly guys like Shorter and LIngard who have proven to be flops and just guys.

Im hopeful with Bowman, but more than likely he will just be another 500 yard guy at best.

It is cute that you guys think the Trey Burton offense would have been different with another 50-80th ranked offense coordinator instead.

Like I said previously, Mullen must get down on his knees and thank God every night for the transfer portal. If he could just manage to stay around 8 to 12 annually, then once every two years (1 in 3 years) pull a 4 to 6 ranking we'd likely have top 6 talent. He needs to get ahead of LSU or A&M, but I don't see it happening. LSU is STILL pulling in talent even with pending NCAA issues hanging over their head and Jimbo will out recruit Mullen 8 days a week for the rest of their lives. With Mullen, we're stuck at 5th best in the SEC.....and if Auburn or Tenn ever get their sh*t together we could slip to 6th. But yeah...Mullen will just out coach everybody!
