tumblr_nujfgwi4AE1r3aa23o1_500[1].jpg I am a Viet Nam war veteran, I was drafted at the age of 20. It never occurred to me to try to get out of serving my country. If I had I would have been a disgrace to my family, my home town, and to my two uncles who died in combat during WWII. My home town has a population of 990 people. During WWII 26 sons of this little community gave their lives that this country may enjoy the freedom it has today. Do I want a draft dodger to be the Commander in Chief of the brave men serving in the military? Hell no!
chickenhawk-definition[1].png Now I know that I am going to get a lot of blow back about this post, that I am a liberal pussy, but I have no respect for men like Trump, who have received all the benefits of this wonderful and free country, but were unwilling to put their life on line for it. When I mustered out of the Army, we were told not to wear our uniforms traveling home because of all the anti-war protests going on in the country and there could be some danger to our safety. I wore my uniform proudly on the train home and when I arrived home was received with love and respect by my family and the people of my hometown. Oh, just as a footnote, during the Second World War, a mother in this small community was voted war mother of the year and received recognition from the President because she had 11 sons serving in the armed forces, three of which never returned home. For the record, I didn't vote for Obama either.

No blow back, just appreciation for your service.

One interesting observation however: You specifically mention the lost lives from your small town while defending the freedoms we as American enjoy, I assume you would summarize your service as doing the same. Given that, how do you reconcile the rabid desire of the left to strip away the freedom given under the 2nd Amendment with the blood spilled to assure the survival of the very same right?

Did you vote for Clinton? Seeing how you feel I know that you didn't but I'm just asking anyway.

    A) You aren't voting for him because you're a Democrat.
    B) Bill Clinton was a draft dodger.
    C) Thanks for your service.

Donald Trump.......son of a rich man... Prep school boy...who used that power to avoid the draft....and then said all that nonsense.......
Bill Clinton small town kid raised by a single parent that earned a Rhodes(during the VN war era) FCNK Scholarship without the help of wealth privilege or power ....and was commander in chief without spouting all kinds of BS about his fake military background like The Donald
...but they were the same........right and I hate children.........
Hotrod just went up three more notches in my eyes while the BC hating crowd could go no lower..........

What does that have to do with the fact that he dodged the draft? It's okay because his family was poor?

Libs ripping on Vietnam draft dodgers has always been funny to me. Most of those same people were long-haired, maggot infested hippies that burned their draft cards and did whatever they could to avoid serving an "unjust" war.

Seems like they would laud people that dodged the draft - they certainly did for Clinton.

The Second Amendment will never be repealed, at least not in my lifetime. I just think it's to easy for people who should not have guns to obtain them. I wish that ideologues on both sides would work together to solve the problem, stop the name calling and work together. It may take time but in the end Americans always do the right thing.

How many people see combat in the military?

My dad did in Korea...but he volunteered. Minor training and threw him into action for a year. Froze his ass off.

One uncle for Vietnam, was in ROTC, but was a box lifter on an air force base...killed in the Tet offensive....had a gun thrown in his hands and told to fight.

Had another uncle who was a chemist in WWII. Another that was in Navy hauling supplies and another was in Europe, but I do not think he saw action either.

Grandfather went to Europe for WWI, never saw action. Ended before doing anything.

I imagine today's military is a little different than these in the past. My dad did not grasp the change and would not let me join.

I guess you missed the part about a Rhodes Scholarship during that time but he should have just given that up for the war.......What was Trumps excuse??? Figuring out what to do with that million daddy gave him as a start up.........exactly the same circumstances......I cant believe I missed it.

Okay, so you are ADMITTING he dodged the draft but say he had a good excuse? Having a Rhodes Scholarship is a good reason to not serve your country in a time of war? Just want to be clear on that. I wonder how Hotrod feels about it.

I have a feeling that if Clinton were a Repub you wouldn't feel this way.

Ox, I have to much respect for you to lie to you. What you created in this site shows dedication and a high degree skill with technology and I admire you for it. I'm a Gator and I wouldn't disrespect a fellow Gator by lying to them.
