Nah, he's so-so, at best.
Agree. This is a must-win (and winnable) game. I doubt Mullen views it as the time to throw caution to the wind and start a woefully inexperienced quarterback. Starting Franks is the safe play. If he appears to be "on" and doesn't throw every pass 90 MPH and 5 yards over the head of the intended target he will stay in the game. If he looks like he did versus Missouri with another Ricky "Wild Thing" Vaughn imitation I believe they will be quick to make the switch to Trask.
I am sure the power 5 games we won are a little better with Franks passing the ball past the line of scrimmage but here is the breakdown from watching the gator offensive plays in our 3 losses when he did actually throw the ball past the line - even if it was just a little past the line of scrimmage. Missouri: 6 of 16 (37.5%) Georgia: 5 of 11 (45.5%) Kentucky: 13 of 34 (38.2%) - surprised we threw threw the ball down the field that much that game. 24 of 61: (39.3%) total those 3 games. Franks is terrible when not throwing easy swing passes.
Game "experience" can and should be simulated. I do understand that your response to it can be quite different. I seem to remember that Tim did better in games that in practice. I also hear that Franks only learns by doing, that is not appropriate for anybody who wants to be a QB.
Even though there was a lot of poor coverage by the Gators on Saturday Lock made some really nice downfield throws, the kind that Franks has struggled to make. The one that sticks out was the pass to Hall down the left sideline with Henderson in decent coverage position (although chasing). The ball was thrown just over his right shoulder in full stride for a long gain. I haven't seen Franks make that kind of downfield throw this season. He clearly struggles to consistently deliver the ball on time and on target.
Thorw the ball downfield early and often to receivers who ran their routes w absolute precision and with the most accurate QB he had.
Do you have a quote or link for that? Would like to see, if possible.
The press conference today on youtube.
If Franks starts anymore we will lose to Scar and Refsu .
Franks blew chunks on saturday and laughed about it on the sideline, but defense was equally to blame. They made locke look like aaron rogers
Franks is starting, I'd be shocked otherwise. I would start Trask, but Mullen seems sold out on the idea
3 games left and ej can only play in 2 to keep his redshirt ( for some reason thats real important) so unfortunately i think franktard starts. Theyll just have to give him 3 or 4 plays to manage
If we're only giving him 3-4 plays, Muschamp will figure it out by the end of the first quarter and attack the weak points of the scheme.
Yeah, I know. These nutbags don't have a clue. It's like when they call Shane Matthews a 5 string QB like he was a fvkking walkon. He was All-State and won national awards.
It better be a short hook if he looks like shyt as always again. He better have the same hook for these lazy, fatass OL. I don't give a damn if you think you are a 5 star. Sit their fvkking asses and show me a freshman that is at least trying.
Right. And Leyer didn't know about domestic battery. Does anyone believe this?
There is no way to simulate a game. The real thing is the only way to get game experience.
Franks' blemished attitude and dud-results recommend him for the bench. We are lucky to have a bench-warmer that grasps our schemes as well as Trask does. Time for "safe experimentation" using Trask (+ EJ) and from there figuring out which plays to call. Again, Franks can get a trial return to see if something's been dislodged by facing some truth about his worth to the team. Mullen cannot continue the same 'ol same 'ol. Once the offense can sustain drives leading to points, then our defense can rest an appropriate amount of time and have more to fight for when they go back in. Mullen inherited Mac's slurry-slop of a team and that's hard to mold.
