Not a chance.
he's kind of old. I expect him to retire. saban however hires consultants often also. maybe we can look at something like that. I seem to think of bureaucracy of our athletic department is such that those sort of things take a proposal then a meeting of the board and may or may not be included in next year or the year after's budget.
Not a chance of what? Mullen wanting to stay in a job where he can't be the boss of his subordinates... or ...Mullen isn't trying to fire fathead todd nor UAA vetoing it?
If only we still had Dooley to call us Gidiots and swear this was nonsense. Then we would know Mullinz was truly getting fired.
I hate to say if, fellas, but now that the dust is settling on the SDS article, methinks we're all getting our hopes up for naught. CDM ain't going anywhere. I seriously doubt we'll fire him. Even with the abysmal end to the season, his W-L record is still good enough for Stricklin, Fuchs and the UAA and at the end of the day, willful or not, his recruiting transgressions do seem comparatively minor. And who hasn't been a bit off their game in post-game pressers now and again? YouTube is filled with vids of coaches performing far worse. And I am certain no NFL team is dumb enough to try to "lure him away". In no way is he an NFL-caliber HC. Even if some dimwitted owner buys into his "quarterback whisperer" mystique, he can test that theory by hiring him as either a QB coach or OC and not trust the entire direction of the franchise to him. I really do hope I'm wrong.
I dont think that is the case. If you are going to get rid of someone you need to get all your ducks in a row. You go silent until you are ready and the script is written. The fact that there is noise coming from Mullen about being interested in the NFL is basically the equivalent of a married man creating a profile on a dating app. However, at the moment it seems more plausible that the NFL noise is an agent getting a raise for his client.
Mullen is our coach next year. Anyone want to bet?
Most likely. But this is going to kill us. We're already struggling with recruiting.
Breath gets it. He may want to leave and the UA may even be hoping he does, but no NFL team is interested in his laissez fair attitude and mediocre results. And our UA isn't going to fire him over his missteps to this point. He'll be here next year, possibly begrudgingly so. I expect a mail it in disaster of a 21 season between the lack of talent on the field, in the coaching offices and these new developments indicating he wants to check out and may already have done so mentally. What a shtshow.
I didnt say I like it. I didnt like the hire to begin with.
Mullen could do like Urban when he wanted to leave. He could stay and functionally hand the reigns over to BJ or TG, much like Urban did with Addazio, and otherwise fade into the background and distance himself from the sh!tshow. I seem to recall that turned out well ... for Urban, at least.
Mullen was working on an extension with the UAA before the Covid hit, then they put talks on hold because campus was being shut down. Now with the findings from the NCAA, I'm betting that all this did was stall the extension and give him another year. No NFL team wants to hire a dude that doesn't run an offense without a full route tree, and would put their $30+ million at risk for injury.

I dont think there is any known interest for Mullen from an NFL program nor am I saying it exists. The only thing that has has facts at the moment is Mullen (his people) floating interest to coach in the NFL and the timing of it getting floated out. Everything else on this subject is speculation. Im just saying it is probably most plausible that it is agent speak to get a raise.

I agree with that... what NFL team would want to run this offense that would expose their quarterback to injury, and be easy for NFL defensive schemes to take away the passing lanes.
Probably the type of situation where you have to lead Strickland to the decision so he thinks it’s his idea.
In a million years, there's no friggin way I'm clicking on that.
Everyone of those years we probably were still like 6th best in the conference when it came to recruiting. He is better than Butter’s, but that ain’t saying much.
