I think the extension angle was a lot of folks first thought in the beginning and then the other rumors came out. If that was the ploy, it's backfiring magnificently. So Mullen thinks he can act like retard, embarrass the school, then get an extension?
It's also potentially damaging to recruiting by floating interest in bolting for other jobs.I think the extension angle was a lot of folks first thought in the beginning and then the other rumors came out. If that was the ploy, it's backfiring magnificently.

I have no doubt he wants to leave. I think he wants a pile of money on his way out, that's the problem. We aren't going to get lucky enough to have someone hire him away, so what happens now?I think he wants to leave. And we should open the door.
It's a classic Sexton ploy, so I can see it either way. If his intent was to get a raise, he got something else.I don’t think it’s a ploy. I think it would be incredibly stupid and completely damaging to recruiting that in back to back years he has looked at leaving to go to the NFL on his own accord. It would be so easy for competing coaches to sell against that.

Am I understanding correctly that one of the possibilities is that Mullen wants to fire Grantham but he is being vetoed by UAA? If this is true, separate his ridiculous pressers and half-arsing the bowl game, I side with Mullen on this issue.
Why would he want to stay here if he can't fire someone who reports directly to him?
If only we still had Dooley to call us Gidiots and swear this was nonsense. Then we would know Mullinz was truly getting fired.
I don’t know where I read it, but I did read somewhere that he has tried to get an extension the last two years and he has not been given one. Also, his assistants have not gotten extensions either. In addition to that there was some clause that all of them had put into their contracts over the last month or so regarding NCAA infractions.
So I think the administration is playing chicken with him. They’re going to let him play his contract out. Or he leaves early on his own accord.
Could he dive bombed the team and sink the program? Sure. But he would wreck any chance he would ever have to coach again. And I think they could fire for cause if that happens.
So it very well could be that he is looking at other options because the administration is not investing money into him or his coaches.

Well I don’t have any idea. I’m just speculating. That benefits no one. The two sides need to be open and honest with each other. We’re either moving forward together or we’re not. The mere suggestion that the UAA may be willing to try and string him out pisses me off, not over him but over what it would do to the program.
That's certainly possible. But as the Only Gators article points out, in many respects Mullen’s frustration is due to a flawed approach by our entire AD. He wants to compete and they aren’t allowing it, or have prioritized completely differently. That’s the part the concerns me. Are there better coaches out there? Yes. But this would be the second coach in 5 years that has called out UF’s commitment to football and is essentially scolded for doing so, while fan expectations continue on undeterred. That’s a toxic recipe. I’m not saying we’re wrong, or putting it all on that. But at some point, how desirable does the job become when you knowingly inherit less support and yet expectations as high as those that have more.
Kind of a wordy way of staying the obvious, that we need a massive wholesale change from the top down. But do we really know exactly what we have with Mullen given the garbage approach we’ve employed since the mid-00s? And does that approach have a lot to do with why he was “chosen” in the first place as two top tier candidates chose other jobs? Yes, the behavior is frustrating and I didn’t like the end of this year, nor the idea of him looking elsewhere every few years. But we have a major issue that runs way deeper than Dan Mullen, and whether it’s a firing or the replacement of a leaving HC, especially with how he’s largely viewed by many of those within Gator Nation, compared to those outside it, it’s simply not a good look. Like Mullen or not, he’s basically pushing the same argument as virtually all of us here, and both parties have acknowledged that until that changes, we’re at a significant disadvantage.
Well I don’t have any idea. I’m just speculating.
Nick De La Torre has an article where he thinks that Sexton is posturing to get him a longer contract and more money. He saying that the administration has been hesitant because of some of the things that Mullen has done this year.
Nobody has any idea. I’m actually surprised that neither Mullen nor the administration has come out and said anything yet.
I saw a post from somebody on 247 who said that Texas A&M changed their athletic structure where the UAA is responsible for all sports except for football and then there is some organization like the booster club? That’s responsible for football.
Since they are the major donors they make sure that the money moves toward football infrastructure and any coaching salaries.
They went on to say that there are some programs that have started to move toward that as well.
I do not know the veracity of this.
Agree completely. And when you get your from Donk, don't bogart it, pass it down.
The NFL doesn't want Mullen, and we are stuck with Toads defense again next season.I missed the last 6 pages on this topic
