That Fuchser in the middle...Gator Bait!
I believe that the UAA forced Arnsparger against his will to hire Spurrier and he bailed out shortly after. So he does not deserve any credit for hiring SOS.
You are correct There has been this misconception that UF recruits itself and it started during the Spurrier era. I routinely read and hear the media talk about how Spurrier owned the recruiting in Florida in the nineties and it’s just not true. With the exception of two classes (1992 and 2000) we always finished behind FSU and/or Miami. The perception was based on performance versus ratings. Urban won the recruiting wars during his tenure but that was due to his ability not the school he was selling. I still chuckle when I hear someone mention the impact of UF academics on recruiting as if to suggest that today’s mercenary players give a fuch about academics while passing through the university. UF is only as good as the staff selling it.
Which goes to show you the ridiculous talent level in Florida, as all 3 of those teams were national powerhouses at the same damn time.
What is special about UF is it is in the SEC and it is in the most fertile high school football talent in the country. Bear Bryant said that if Florida ever awakens we will all be in trouble for that very reason. All you have to do is recruit florida and keep the talent in state.
I agree. I can see it now, Stricklin at a press conference trying to convince the gator nation that Billy Napier of U La La is the savior of the gator program and not Butters 2.0. This fact is the only thing preventing me from being 100% on board with Mullen leaving
Id take Napier over Dorky Dan in a nanosecond. the issue is proving to the gator nation that Napier is not another Mullen or McElstain. those two are two peas in a pod, too lazy to recruit and two simple to change their offense from the same 5 to 10 plays they always run. EDIT DISREGARD I WAS THINKING OF THAT OTHER FORMER CLEMSON OC. Napier is basically Freezelight, without the razzle dazzle or rapid pace.
But soon the hiring of a guy like Lewis will result in extra scholarships or 7 points on the scoreboard at the beginning of each game. The NFL is already bribing teams with draft picks so I assume that college football will want to quantify their wokeness as well
Maybe, but a guy like Lewis would waste them anyway.
I may be reading your bolded incorrectly but I believe that any perception that academics may play on recruiting is not a positive, in that our "mercenary players" care about academics. I believe it is a negative in that UF consistently has to pass on "mercenary players" because they don't qualify academically to get into UF. #GatorBait
you can believe it all you want but University of Florida regularly takes players that can't get into Auburn or even Miami, to the tune of four or five per year. hell some of these non-qualifiers can't even get into community college. the problem is that no one who can get in it another school wants to sign for Mullins, plain and simple.
Academic standards should not apply at all to scholarship athletes, period, in any sport or any college. If they are good enough to offer, you take them and it doesn't even matter if they are illiterate.
It’s also a negative, because If I’m johnny 5-star, and I only care about playing ball, you think I want to bust my @$$ learning calculus at UF, when I can go to FSU and major in coloring between the lines. I’ll take the easy academics all day long.
Kadarius Toney and Chris Rainey did fine at UF. please tell me how hard the academics are for football players.
Name one recruit that UF took that was unable to qualify on academics. Bonus points will be deducted if in their first year they: - later transferred or - entered the portal or - quit or - left because of home sickness or - left because they realized they were too far away from Mommy
you're insane. do your own research. what do you pay any attention to recruiting?
@PFF_College: Dan Mullen, PFF's Coach of the Year
for the bolded above, do your own research before spouting off at the lips with your negative slant/perception.
I know you guys are ate up about Gator football but get real. The UF President is the de factor president of the UAA, otherwise the NCAA would not accept us into the fold. The purpose of college athletics is to prepare student athletes for leadership in the real world not prepare illiterates for pro careers. I am in favor of having no special qualifiers at all. Recruiting should be from the pool of students that have been accepted to the University and those admissions should be checked by an independent committee. Parity would ensue and Bama could go pound sand.
Go.fvkk yourself with a baseball bat. Hell, it isnt hard for you to figure how how many commits didnt make it to campus and/or were sent to community college. instead you try to comfort yourself with the same old bull**** every losing team does that we only take the smart ones and we're not paying our players.
