My son interned with guy whose named was spelled Geoff.
He called him geee off for months and one day was telling me something gee off showed him at work. I asked who the hell was gee off and he told me. THEN it dawned on me.
I had to tell him it was an alternate spelling.
Fee months later, a client who works in the office stopped by and told me everyone in her office started calling him gee off after that.
