Borrowed from another board: a timeline of South Carolina's 2019 debacle:
Opening game loss to UNC (after being an 8 point favorite), then...
1) South Carolina gets beat by 20 by Tennessee and people start to get on edge after the Georgia win high subsides
2) they beat a bad vandy team with a backup Qb
3) they lose to a solid app state team while putting up basically no yards
4) muschamp gives a statement that the offensive staff is not being shaken up at all
5) tanner puts out a vote of confidence for muschamp amid growing media scrutiny
6) an article comes out saying that a powerful BOT member is actively recruiting an ex Carolina player and current AD to become the next AD and is trying to get other BOT members on board
7) president Calsen has an interview saying the administration has talked to FSU about how they managed the their buyout.
8) president calsen backtracks on statement
9) media source reviews tapes and sticks to their story that calsen said what he said
The absolute best part of all of this is the fact that Muschamp, the ultimate arrogant jerk who insists he's the best thing to ever happen to college football, had to sit here last week and watch his own school initially release several statements regarding whether or not they can/should fire him--from a fiscal standpoint, not a performance based one. Now, his President that he assured everyone just yesterday was super supportive, along with the AD, is openly acknowledging again that they've called other schools to see how they got rid of their failed coaches.
So it's not being done in a discreet manner where there'll be some type of joint statement about it being best for both parties to step away from each other, hand shakes and compliments all around. It's all out in the open for the world to see. For the second time in just over 5 years, a school is actively looking at how they can rid themselves of him, at whatever expense needed, and to the extent of calling others to say, "hey, our coach sucks too, any tips?". Literally everyone knows how bad his own employer thinks he is and that even if he should return for another year, it will strictly be about finances rather than any thing they feel he can still accomplish. For someone with his ego, you now he's reading the local sports page and likely message boards and just grinding his teeth in derision. Assuming her eyes still work after all the plastic surgery, I can't imagine his wife can even look him in the eye as she preps for yet another move and comforts the kids as they deal with "your dad sucks" taunts at school. I don't even care about the money. He's not a Weis type who can disappear and take solace in the fact that he can now afford a small island in the Pacific. WM hates the notion of someone implying that he's not good, insisted that we were wrong for firing him here, and now has to face people every day for as long as he's still employed that have told everyone who'll listen that they made a major mistake in hiring him. The whole thing couldn't be better than the way it's happening.
