Two numbers were retired and then unretired when SOS came home. His number 11 was one and Scot Brantley's number 55 was the other one. Spurrier apparently wanted to award Ben Hanks the honor of wearing his number and would only issue it to players on the defense, no other QB's. That has changed thru the years with other coaches without the program history SOS brought back to the swamp. I agree with your premise that certain numbers be reserved for generational talent.
