My show n tell, not gardening but wow I couldn't believe how black and mucky the dirt is under the grass. The rest of the yard is light colored sand but its a few feet higher. My first sinkhole, half of it is my neighbor's. Hard to tell from photo but its 6-8 ft across and 3-4 ft deep. City water line is next to it, luckily no busted pipes yet. Gov't truck turned back earlier, because there is still water in the street. They'll be back tomorrow. Hope the hole stops growing.

I got lucky, its in the road easement and the city / county fixed it. Turns out we had 2 issues. Broken terra cotta sewer drain and clogged storm drain. The sink hole is fixed, the storm drain goes into the woods between homes and the county is locating an owner for permission to get to their problem and repair the clogged pipe. Tree roots, sand, etc.

I have to say, I couldn't be more impressed with the response from the city / county. The work crews were excellent.

Black and mucky was the sewer leaking for years.

Yes it has been getting worse in recent years. Rain has really saturated the ground this summer. The water table was visible in the hole they dug. They said it would have been a pain to do the job w/o the snorkel vacuum so they could splice the pipes. They got a lot of sand out of the manhole behind the dozer. They also cleared one more in each direction. Been here 30 yrs and it never ever flooded before, even w/ Tropical storms and Hurricanes. This could have been a major disaster.

Counting my blessings. If that sinkhole had not happened, and repairs made to get sand out of the manhole covers on my street and fix sewer pipes and unblock a storm drain, my house and 20-30 more would have been waist deep in water. I got at least 15" of rain. Water was almost 3 ft deep in the road, almost up to our front doors. Once it let up and stopped rising by late Thursday, it drained away by 7am Friday.
Now if I could just get the electric back on, I can take a hot shower.

Fortunate timing indeed. It could have been so much worse.

I am posting this with a heavy heart. I love Gardening and everything that comes with it... but I am officially done in 2023. This is taking up too much of my time. I’m struggling to keep up with the everyday chores of cooking, cleaning and maintaining my home, so something has to give. I have decided to get rid of all my supplies.

Below is a list of what's available. Serious inquiries only, and please don't insult me with low offers.
Thanks for reading and understanding...

1. Vacuum cleaner
2. Dustpan and broom
3. Mop and bucket
4. Swiffer
5. Leaf blower
6. Laundry detergent
7. Iron

Nice iris! We are at least 3 months from the Iris blooming. Right now the crocus and daffodils are showing off. The tulips are next.

Wow, that's spectacular!
Ours obviously won't live herein KY during the winter so that don't get that full. We have to start over every spring.
Don't know if you noticed, but I added a white plant in there to mix it up this spring.
