If so I guess we're riding with just one new DT.
Do you know if other NT DL were available but our huge staff unable to bring in for a visit?

The new DT plus Robinson would have been nice but is what it is. Some would consider his loss due to NIL but he originally committed to Texas so under the old rules, he wouldn't have been here at all.

One of them has coached P5 and is a proven loser.

I've heard the transfer portal is closed?

If so I guess we're riding with just one new DT.
Players had to enter the portal no later than April 25th but there doesn’t seem to be a set final date on when they need to sign with their next school….

We ought to try for a flip flop with unc and pick up DT Joel Starlings who entered the portal 4/16. 6’5” 320. 4 star recruit.

He’s the highest ranked of the remaining unsigned DTs….

So another portal opens and closes...and we didnt really do much. I guess now we can only target graduates. Sigh.

Were other big DTs available but not recruited; was our back office recruiting staff on vacation; Napier going to move some TEs to NG ? Seems like the only position of dyer need.

Anyone know if we are still trying to land the Miami Safety?

We’re looking at two safeties. The one from Miami and another one from Michigan State. The Michigan State one is on an official today I think.

Were other big DTs available but not recruited;

I saw a 24/7 article that said LSU got the top DL in the spring portal. He’s 6’1”, 280. The article says he’s quick and grades well as a run stopper, but he’s 6’1”, 280. So there wasn’t much out there.

We basically lost a 300lb guy (Robinson) and got a 300lb guy (Bett). We’ve got 9 DT/NG, but not enough have experience and 5 are 300+. Banks, Lyons (coming back from injury), and Boireau will need Bett and 2-3 of the younger and undersized guys to eat snaps as much as possible.

Are you counting the walkons again, Ancient Reptile?

Not quite. Leaned on this list, losing Robinson and adding Bett.

Banks, Lyons, Boireau and Bett are 300lbs+ with experience. Banks is pretty good. Lyons should be if he’s recovered and ready. Boireau is decent for rotation, Bett should be, too. Shivers is a nearly 400lb freshman who can run but still a freshman.

Then there’s a handful of 290lb guys. That’s undersized inside, except good pass rushers at that size can help on obvious passing downs. (But we are more likely to use an extra edge/end.) Maybe they can eat snaps against lesser opponents.

This is the weakest unit on the team for 2025. They have to stay healthy and hope to get some meaningful snaps out of Shivers and 1-2 of the other young guys.

CBS just came out with their mock draft. They have Caleb Banks at #4. ESPN has Caleb Banks in the top 20 in their draft.

Enjoy the season. Youre going to love it. The fact that Brian Taylor is at #2 says it all. He should have transferred to the Ivy league when we stole that DT from Harvard.

Bourieau is no better.

He is borderline terrible vs the run. Always trying to shoot a gap and penetrate instead of holding his run duties. Pretty nice rushing the passer in the last 4 or 5 games.

Ideally he would be an SDE or only at DT on third and long.

"Still room for improvement" :lmao2:

Honorable Mention: Caleb Banks, Florida

At 6-foot-5 with long arms, Banks has been a highly productive pass-rusher during his two seasons with the Gators. The former Louisville Cardinal leads all returning Power Four interior defenders with 53 pressures since 2023, while his 12.7% pressure rate ranks second among returning defensive tackles nationwide.

There’s still room for improvement in the run game, as Banks has yet to earn a 70.0 run-defense grade in his career. However, with his length and pass-rushing ability, he has a high ceiling and could be a favorite among scouts leading up to the 2026 NFL Draft.

I'm sure that he will he will get drafted fairly high, with teams thinking they can fix whatever is wrong in his run defense.

I think it’s more critical to be a pass rushing DT than a run stuffing DT in today’s NFL. Disrupting the quarterback and creating havoc is much more important. Very few teams are run heavy anymore.

But now that I say that, you are starting to see a little bit of a drift back toward running backs in the NFL and college.
