Alex.

That sounds a lot like what I got - only a better price. That's a steal.
Here's the online S&W rebate form:

So... I was at the Dulles Expo Center Gun Show today.
I finally decided on a carry weapon.
I was just about to go with a Ruger LC9s Pro when the guy said to have a look at S&W.
So...
Got a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm with three mags (one flush, two extended).
After rebate - $288 including taxes.

Thanks to all for the advice

Wow, that's a great price. I bought mine at the Marine Corps Exchange (Henderson Hall, in Arlington) for $329 (and that was w/ a 10% off special they were running).

Do you live in the DC area?

Man, I'm not too far from there in Arlington. I'm just off George Mason, near Wakefield HS.

Yep, it sucks! When I come back to DC for a weekend I leave at 4am on Monday and it's usually smooth sailing....otherwise it's a nightmare!
Yeah, between traffic and no radar detector, it blows!!

'bout 99.9% certain that I'll get a carry weapon for Father's Day. Over the weekend I looked at the Springfield XD's - primarily the XDS & XDM 9mm - two very nice guns
I'll likely wind up with the S because it's slightly thinner overall, but the M is very nice
I'll find a range where I can shoot some to see how I like that before I make a final decision though

a pistol permit in bama is an application with the Sheriff & $20/year so why wouldn't anyone carry?

Springfield also has a nice rebate lasting until the end of June - 4 extra mags, holster, & double mag pouch - can't beat that

Take a close look at the Smith Shield. It has a very nice rebate right now. The Shields are well under $300. Made in America vs. made in Croatia (Springfield). I like the grip on the Smith much better. To me, the Springfield has a weird top heavy feel. My brother has a 40 Springfield which jammed a bunch. Springfield supposedly fixed it though.

I'd really like an M1A (walnut stock please). Never owned a .308.

But I don't think it's in the cards.

Alex.
