Survey - Best Facilities in College Football

ESPN just completed a survey of the top 300 recruits. One result really shocked me and makes me wonder if we need to make some major improvements. The following is a basic breakdown of how the question was answered: Recruits also were asked which of the schools they've visited had the best facilities? The runaway winner was Alabama, as 24 percent of the recruits listed the Crimson Tide. One prospect called Alabama's facilities "the Taj Mahal of college football." Tennessee was second, followed by Ohio State and Texas, and then Texas A&M, Clemson, Georgia, Nebraska, Penn State and Arkansas. How could Tennessee have better facilities? Jawja? Clemson? Nebraska? Arkansas? Are they just getting a lot more visits, from the top 300? That's the issue I have with this survey. None of the recruits visit every school. Some schools, like Bamer, are getting far more visits than we are. We did finish among the top for the best atmosphere. Do you believe that we need to make some improvements?

I'm sure not having an indoor practice facility plays a part of that, but like you said, the survey is very flawed so it is not something to be too concerned about.

Our South Endzone Complex (locker room, meeting rooms, training and equipment rooms, weight room, etc...) and Heavener Complex are second to none. The only thing that anyone else has on us is an indoor practice facility.

The indoor practice facility gets a lot of talk. Maybe I'm old school but I think that if you have to play in the heat and humidity you should practice in it.

A friend of mine played at Florida in the early 90's (special teamer, backup safety) and he got me into the Heavener complex one day when it wasn't flooded with people and I was able to take my time and look around. It is gorgeous. A lot of Gator history in there. If anybody on here hasn't been it is something you have to check out if you get the chance.

Last time I was there was 2008, it is much better then it was in the 1980's and 1990's. The changes made during Meyer era definitely modernized it.

The only thing I might want is a bubble to be able to practice when it rains. As indicated you should practice in the conditions that you intend to play in.

Lightning interrupts several practice sessions every year and that's valuable time lost. Also, recruiting is the key to any successful program and if an indoor facility impresses recruits and makes a difference in their opinion of the school, we should have one. Now, I'm not smart enough to know if it makes that big of a difference. I would have to yield to Law. :-)

Maybe that's why we recruit so poorly!

I know you weren't serous, but, as we have seen in the past, one player can make a huge difference in a team's success (Tebow). Things are so competitive now that any edge at team can get is important.

Uuuhh, any LEGAL edge a team can get, or if it is illegal, better not get caught by the NCAA or a local beat writer...

I watched that Paul Finebaum on ESPNU, and if he is the cream of the crop of show people on the new SEC Network - we are all in trouble. The guy is bad bad bad. Remember the second lieutenant in "Good Morning Vietnam"? He hought everyone would like polka music? Finebaum, in spite of his big ears - reminds me of that dude...BAD!
