@FootballScoop: To the same firm that helped UT select him, right? Not strange at all….
In defense of White and the search firm, this is how they spent the last week...

Brian Johnson is a solid candidate and should take while the taking is good.. But in UCF best interest would be to get an AD and possibly wait a year because they are so close to NSD and the beginning of Spring.
The real national signing day is now in December
Nearly 90% of the recruits have already chosen a school and signed

I'd swear that said TN is pulling together its 8 players to meet their new coach tonight. Because 8 is about all they have left.
They are at an interesting point. The right hire keeps building this up. The wrong hire burns it to the ground. However I think this is a message that they are still a stepping stone program and may want to try and find someone that isn't going to be stolen in 2 years. I think the Malzan hire sounds intriguing. Gimmick offense in that conference where he would have probably the best recruiting, but would he bolt for the first big time school. That being said I'm all for Johnson getting a real shot to start his HC career.Brian Johnson is a solid candidate and should take while the taking is good.. UCF DC Randy Shannon will be the interim coach at UCF.
I was like why are they only meeting with 8 players? Are those the players that they are trying to convince to stay?
@PeteThamel: Fun little Heupel fun fact here. He finished second in the 2000 Heisman behind current Tennessee QB coach Chris Weinke. (He'll likely be firing him soon.) And he finished one spot ahead of former Purdue QB Drew Brees. Some fun names on this list.
