Thank you defense for not throwing in the towel

I know nobody probably gives a damned after last night, and the last 12 months probably, but I was impressed with our defensive PLAYERS effort last night. They seemed to play as hard or harder even when the score was 42-0 as they did all night long.

They actually did. I like that they still showed some pride

Yeah, but when it was 42-0 the Missouri offense stopped trying to score. Missouri had 20 yards in the second half. 20.

The defense only folds when the other team actually tries to score. Missouri knew it was game over at 17-0, therefore, why do anything risky. One of the great myths of the Muschamp era; "but they played great defense."

I was telling my son in the 2nd quarter....why is Missouri trying to pass the ball? All they need to do is run clock and not fumble the ball doing so. It doesn't get much worse than knowing the other team can start getting in their victory formation in the first half

Remember, this is a team that was shut out by Georgia. Mauk is horrible. Their offense isn't much better than ours.

As we all witnessed last night. Their defense and special teams, thanks to our blocked extra point, each outscored our offense. That's quite the feat, even for Muschamp.

Yeah, they looked like men among boys . . . playing Mizzou's 2nd and 3rd string.

Missouri had their offensive starters in until the end of the game.....and they were trying to score but have been struggling which is why they left them in.

I appreciate their effort, but agree Missouri is a terrible team. Just UF is as terrible as Mizzou.

As terrible as? That's being generous. I'd say the game proves we are many time worse than Mizz.

They were auditioning for the new staff.

I kind of agree.....It seemed like once they knew the game was lost they played loose and aggressive.

This was as ill-prepared a Florida team as humanly imaginable. It was as if we decided to not practice all week. Incomprehensible, still, I can't get my mind around it. And with stuff actually on the line, SEC east, and against a really bad team, and at home. And while I appreciate the attempt at a silver lining with the defense, something tells me that if we had really needed the defense in this game, they would not have been there.

When Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk (who went 6 of 18 for 20 yards and an interception, yet his team won by 29) ran for 19 yards on a third-and-17, it left the Gator defense with this dubious stat – in situations of third-and-10-or more, opponents had converted 12 of 26 attempts, 46.2 percent, which would represent an awful third-down conversion rate overall (South Carolina was last in the SEC at 43.2 percent heading into last weekend’s play), let alone on third-and-long. That’s just plain awful.

I agree Ox. But the fact that the wheels had come off and they wouldn't let a bad offense do anything says something about........well, pride I guess.

Crete, I appreciate your optimism, I really do. But don't forget when this game was still within reason, the defense gave up a TD on a short field and an 8-minute scoring drive in back-to-back possessions. In other words, when Mizzou wasn't simply trying to protect a huge lead, they were moving the ball quite easily against our defense. NOBODY gets bouquets of flowers in this one, NOBODY!

DC, nobody is trying to throw flowers at this pile of sh!t that was last night, this season, last season or the entire Will Muschamp era. I full agree with your earlier post about being the worst prepared team that we've seen in a long time. Yes, the defense gave up a long drive and a short field TD. They did gather themselves though and show some pride IMO. As I stated earlier Mizzou left their offensive starters in the whole game because they knew they really didn't do that much and their coach was probably trying to get in extra work. I've been on the losing end of games like this and it's easy to quit, throw in the towel, take cheap shots at the opponent, fight with your teammates and such.....I didn't see any of this and the guys looked to be playing well despite their biggest problems, the coach and the offense. I thought I saw some effort out there. That is all.

Here ya go for Muschamp's defense, try this stat: Florida's opponents are 12 of 26 on third downs of 10 or more yards (46.2%). In other words, when our opponents are 3rd and a mile, they've got us right where they want us. Muschamp's defenses SUCK ass minus Dan Quinn in 2012.
