Then it was time to work on the panel itself. Cleaning it took practically an hour alone, as there was dirt in every cranny on both sides. Here it was cleaned up:

Here it is painted. The red carpet on the bottom will be replaced with black carpet from the kit.

Then I started screwing around with the drivers side. Here's the seat cushion removed, showing the lovely surprises awaiting me. I then removed the seat, leaving the power motor assembly on the floor for now.

With the seat out, I could remove the panel along the transmission tunnel. I'll clean this piece up and paint it tomorrow.

And here is where we are after all the work today:

Was that Motorola Razr flip phone included with the car?! Haven't seen one of those bad boys in years. Ox keepin' it old school.
It's my work phone. I got in 2009 and never upgraded it. I'm happy to say I'm going to be turning it in in 10 days for good. I've changed jobs.....for the better.

Are you using the paint designed for plastic or vinyl trim? I probably would. Its more flexible. Also there is a prep/ primer that helps it remain bonded. Sometimes it's tricky to get paint to stick to plastic. I also would use the same brand of paint and the primer/adhesion promoter also.

I'd like to hope my donation didn't go to this POS. You've got a sh!t ton of work to do with this. What's your plan, restore and sell?

Yeah, drug dealers usually have a smartphone and about 6 flip phones and always have some "work phone" excuse.

I know (think) you're joking, but cracks about spending kickstarter money on a car directly question my integrity and I don't find them funny. I haven't seen a cent of that money yet, anyway.

The plan is to restore and DRIVE the car in nice weather. Believe it or not, some people don't find this kind of thing work. It's fun to bring an old neglected car back to life.

I bet so many hookers have been in that car.
I honestly wouldn't doubt it, although if you've ever sat in one of these cars you'll realize very quickly there isn't much room to maneuver.

Easy there, Bovine Bloviater. I thought I saw a can of rustoleum, which is about the cheapest and worst paints (with fish oil that causes much problems later) you can buy, in one of the photos. As always, my advise on here is free and guaranteed to be worth the price paid.

I notice you didn't respond to the drug dealer allegation.

No, the drug dealer allegation is true.

I'm using Duplicolor Vinyl & Fabric paint on the dash and door panels, and Krylon Fusion for plastic for everything else. Both are fantastic products. Everything also gets a good amount of prep; a light sanding and a thorough cleaning.

The speaker cover you see in the pictures above got both - the Krylon for the plastic frame and the Duplicolor for the fabric screen itself. It looks brand new.

I don't have a lot of experience painting plastics, but since the interior surfaces get a lot of abuse, would it make sense to maybe explore the use of a clear coat product to add some protection to those areas? Matt M might be a good source for info as I understand he's a painter. Looks like you're gonna have a lot of fun, the car actually is in pretty good shape and I'm glad you decided to share the project with us. With some big fins on the rear and some nosework, it would make a great candidate for a Batmobile replicar. Oh, and you have hairy palms. Have you had your pituitary glands checked?

wow, sensitive much? I'll stop with the jokes but don't take it personally, I don't know you from Adam and have no way to gauge your integrity.
