Florida baseball coach Kevin O'Sullivan tells us, "the biggest thing for college athletics is to get football back."

At least SOMEONE in the building knows who butters the bread.

      And buys the bread.

And pays for the kitchen and the electricity in the kitchen.

      And the entire house.

At least one of the money losing sports knows they exist only bc of football $.

Now if some of these cawksuckers in the AD Office manage to figure it out.

O'Sullivan is certainly correct and he's not only a very good ball coach, but a big picture guy as well. It is also true at the high school levels. Read an article in the Tallahassee paper outlining what getting football started again will look like. I'm paraphrasing, but the NCAA AD's are forecasting CV-19 testing of the entire team, coaching, and support staff, initial practices utilizing social distancing (small groups, even perhaps individual balls for each skill player; not certain if the balls can carry the virus, but no mention of other practice equipment that is contacted by numerous players), shut down for a positive test, no mention about fans in the stands or game day staff. Still a great amount of uncertainty. During a recent national HS AD's Zoom, many around the country are making plans for no football, which is affecting virtually every other sport, as football is the financial bell cow, or they are hoping for a shorter season that starts later. Those that are hoping to play are planning on limited crowds with social distancing in the stands or no crowds at all. Many are also planning to not charge sponsors or supporters this year, but to carry their advertising. A very noble gesture, but the absence of that arm of financial support along with reduced or no ticket revenues is almost catastrophic.

I'm hopeful, but there is a lot that will have to change and very quickly for football to get started or even happen this fall.

We started back with team strength and conditioning two weeks ago. We are very rural, so most of our parents are the "rub some dirt on it" type, which in general provides a bit less pressure on the decision makers. We moved it outdoors - bars , benches and all. Disinfectant spray on the equipment between uses. Players are being coached not to touch their face with their hands. There's a hand-washing station for after practice. The kids are actually loving it. I admit there's an appeal to lifting while you watch the sunset that makes the extra heat and dust worth it.

The issue will arise if there are schools that don't have students on campus in the fall. No students on campus = no football.. or the NCAA has to admit that they're not really 'student athletes' but semi-pro players not beholden to the rules of the university.

That is some Clubber Lang sh!t right there!! Our weight room was so small we had to do a lot of lifting outside. Tires, sledge hammers, logs, kids got off on it.

                        No clue.

I thought Sully was the big guy on Monsters Inc. Or the pilot who put it in the Hudson. Even now, without looking at the top of this thread, I can't remember dudes name.

Absolutely. He can watch football and be unemployed. No problem. Or maybe he take over the basketball team. Couldn’t hurt.

Shoot, Sully's no dummy. He knows if he wants a raise from $1m per year to $5m per year with a lifetime contract...which the dummies in the AD's office have already promised him...he needs a packed football stadium to fund his exorbitant contract demands. He may be an overrated baseball coach when it comes to time for the postseason but he's smart enough to know how he's going to pay for his castle on the Irish coast when he retires.

I disagree with that premises. Not everything related to college students can be done by video conference. That's like arguing that if a college athletic team, under normal non-virus conditions, leaves town on a Thursday to attend an out of state sporting event and the kids miss Friday class that is somehow an admission that they aren't really "student athletes". We all know that's not the case, any more than your scenario is the case. It just so happens that their chosen university sanctioned extracurricular requires their physical presence to participate.

How long before he starts eating chunks of turf from the field? Wait, I know the answer...quite awhile as that activity is reserved for big time wins, something we don't appear destined for any time soon.

                                        • About Us

Our community sprung up when the Gatorsports message board was shut down in the summer of 2014. We pride ourselves on offering Gator-biased, yet critical discussion among people of all different backgrounds. We are working every day to make sure our community is the best Gator message board you will find.

The management works very hard to make sure the community is running the best software, best designs, and all the other bells and whistles. Care to buy us a non-alcoholic Zima? We'd really appreciate it! Just click the "Donate" tab at the top of the page.
