The Jalen DeBoner era has begun at Alabama: crushed by Oklahoma, may not survive the season

Well, the Jalen DeBoner era is underway at Alabama and he's off to a good start. DeBoner, who coached up the Penix at Washington and taught him to play hard and stand firm & tall in the pocket, now has the opportunity to instill those same traits in Bama QB Kalen Melrose. Melrose, who played spotty and soft many times last year to the point he was benched, will have the chance to prove that he's worthy to lead the Tide in this new era for the program.

Jalen received a ringing endorsement from our beloved SOS several weeks ago, with the Head Ball Coach acknowledging that Jalen did a great job at Washington and has been a winner everywhere he's been. DeBoner led his team to a 63-0 stroll against Western KY Lube in Week 1.

Meanwhile, in Gainesville, our resident penis of a HC led us to a crushing, yet completely expected, defeat to a highly overrated Miami team. Our beloved SOS was left flabbergasted, with his advice to Sun Belt Billy to try something different...and don't bring the players out in 100+ degree heat an hour and a half before the game starts. SOS I'm sure wanted to tell Billy to beat off, I'm mean beat it, as in hit the highway, but by his own admission, couldn't because he's a university ambassador.

So what say you GatorChatter board members...will Jalen DeBoner be successful at Alabama for the long term while bringing Bama more nattys or will trying to follow the legend of Saban be too much pressure and cause him to wilt like a limp noodle? Discuss.

Wow, a team loaded with 5-stars left by Saban blew out a high school team? Extremely impressive.

It was a sh!tty hire and the fan base is going to be calling for his head by the end of the year.

I have no idea why GIG would start a pro-Bama thread on the forum. It's odd.

Not so much a pro-Bama thread as it is wondering if people feel he'll be successful in succeeding Saban, taking into account Spurrier's recent praise of the new guy in Tuscaloosa.

That and the fact that I've been told by many on this board that it's impossible to lure an established, sitting Power 5 head coach away from his current school to coach at a different college and that's why we're left to go bottom feeding in the Sun Belt for new HCs. Yet just in the past couple of years, we've seen Southern Cal, LSU and Bama all lure established guys from other big name programs to take over their vacant HC positions. Heck DeBoner made the playoffs last year.

No, not even close. He will fail there.

I think he's a good coach but it will be a tough task. Never easy replacing a legend and the fans will put him through the meat grinder as soon as he chokes away a game they shouldn't lose.

At the end of this season, Alabama will be unranked. The fans may burn his house to the ground.

You better listen to him GIG, because if any fan base has a PHD in knowing what the hiring of a shytty coach is, it is the folks of the GC.
