1. It sounds to me like it was just a matter of terminology to him.

2. Old athletes sometime embellish their stories to entertain.

3. Ultimately he is right, a QB can not throw it to a defender whether they are an LB or a DB and so they must look over the field and see who is where and where everyone is moving.
