They are the keys to quelling the violence that has become the focus of these protests, hijacked or otherwise. I understand that there maybe a lot of hamstringing going on at the hands of sympathetic mayors and governors, but it was always understood that the role of LE was to “protect and serve.” Not a coincidence that “protect” is listed first. I know there are a few bad cops, but I’m proud of what all the good ones do and they shouldn’t have to suffer for the transgressions of a few. I applaude the self control of the men and women I see in news clips standing erect while “protesters” throw bottles and rocks at them. However, at the first sign of aggression they should be sweeping the streets IMO. Asses and names; kicking and taking. This giving the protesters (and by proxy the rioters) space to vent probably looks good in a Spike Lee flick, but is useless in real life. I’m glad to see some clips of legitimate protesters turning the villains into the LE. Self-policing helps their cause. I don’t know a whole lot about Polk Co. Sheriff Grady Judd, but I can appreciate his hard line stance on keeping the thugs at bay in his community. Seems like it is that kind of resolve that is lacking in a lot of our leadership at this moment. Desperate times call for desperate measures and it takes not only guts, but also a firm belief and commitment to the sanctity of the profession. I hope that the LE nationwide can be allowed to do their job. Everybody will eventually suffer if they can’t.
