@Black Dahlia this sounds like something I recall reading about in History class. The government taking firearms from the citizenry...something about some National Socialists :scratchchin:

Of the three, only the last makes any sense, and is actually what I’ve proposed several times for a host of reasons. I think late-Sep/early-Oct through lat-Jan/early-Feb would work and eliminate some of the heat and hurricane issues we often have in the opening month. Would take some fine tuning but is feasible.

The first option seems too WW2. If things are that bad still, just can the whole thing as we have bigger problems. Traveling to/from Missouri is just as bad as an OOC trip to Colorado.

And option two has to be from Washington. The whole kick the can idea works temporarily but where does it stop. You going to start amateurs again in July for next season's conditioning, or just make this the new norm where CFB is played in Spring. Again, just kill it and move on if that’s the best we can come up with.

I also think all of these ideas miss a major point, which is that if we’re still in this in July, it will mean about 75% of the country still isn’t working, and roughly 90% have taken a massive hit to finances. There won’t be anyone paying to go to these games, nor will you be able to entice people to sit negative 6 inches away from a bunch of sweating strangers. If we’re not out of the woods by May 15, college football is done for 2020.

Dabo: 'Zero doubt' college season starts on time

There’s a fine line between optimism and delusion.

Somehow our 9 game conference schedule would probably look like Bama twice, Lsu twice, Barn twice, Ugay twice, and somehow Clemson would be counted as our 9th conference game.

Pussy ass liberals must think General Tzo's Bat Stew Flu is the greatest thing that ever happened. It kills more men than women, the hysterical overreaction to it is shutting down the patriarchal capitalist system, and as the organic, gluten-free cherry on top, it might even put at least a temporary stop to toxically-masculine football.

I hope and believe the virus will not stop the football season, but if it doesn't, it's a given that certain teams fielding new starters at QB and other key positions will whine and complain that they were unfairly disadvantaged due to the cancellation of spring practice.
I'm starting a BaseketBall League if WuFlu kills football.

We'll have to take matters into our own hands. Brave, fearless Baseketballers braving the virus to entertain the masses and save America. Whose with me?

A friend’s daughter is a grad student at UF. She sat in on a virtual meeting where this was discussed my high level admins.

It’s insane. And it’s not just college football or even sports. It’s every scrap of live entertainment and leisure. No more airlines. No more theme parks. No more national parks or beaches or public parks or pools. No more tourism at all. No more production crews generating new movies, series, documentaries, etc. No more large family gatherings and class reunions. No more weddings or funerals. No more colleges and universities. Humanity has been gathering as far back as we have historical and archaeological records, and farther still if you look at stories and artifacts that precede those. Virtual contact can replace it some, but not for long in many ways.

It’s the difference between existing and living.

Surely we’ll have effective treatments identified soon. Maybe even a vaccine. If not, there will be a massive, world wide “Screw this” revolt. And maybe that’s herd immunity screaming for its necessary role in human health.

I’m not whining for diversions for myself. I keep thinking about the millions of people who are losing their livelihoods. Worse, we’ve made incredible progress the last 20 years in abating poverty. All of that developmental work, funded by the largess and investment of capitalism through innovative governmental, corporate investment, NGO, charitable and church-led mission is being crushed. And if we get thrown back, say, 25 years the death toll will far far exceed the virus projections.

I’m as impressed with Dr. Birx as I have been anyone in public life in a long time. But soon public health’s dependence on economics must take precedence.

BTW - “economy” comes from the Greek word “oikonomeia” which means the management of a household, “oikos” being “house”. Even if it means risking disease or accident, you have to feed everyone. And we don’t live on bread alone.

If they push it back, can you imagine the OSU/Michigan and Army/Navy games in late December or January? That would be some real football right there.
