I've always thought that if they wanted to have a successful professional women's pro sports league, they should try to start a professional volleyball league. Not the two-on-two beach volleyball, but regular indoor like in college.

Reasons being:
  1. Women's volleyball is one of the most popular sports in the Olympics. Gets great ratings, both beach and indoor.
  2. Female volleyball players are often fairly attractive. Definitely better looking than basketball or softball players.
  3. Uniforms are shorts and a little top, so you can see what's going on. For a pro league they could go skimpier than college.
  4. The sport is easy to follow along and get into, everybody knows the rules from gym class.
  5. There is no male volleyball so you're not judging their athleticism vs. better male players, like in basketball or soccer.
  6. They could play in college arenas to get the energy of a full crowd, rather than in cavernous NBA stadiums.
  7. The importance of no. 2 & 3 can't be underestimated. Volleyball training has a pleasing effect on DAT ASS.

Would you watch women’s curling if 1. the girls were attractive, 2. they wore tight short shorts, 3. the camera angle was from above and behind the (pitcher, bowler, thrower?), and 4. in addition to sweeping they also had to make sandwiches?

I still have fond memories of watching that Swiss chick with the big cans from the last Olympics. Beach volleyball could work for me.
